Temmy is the ponification of Singapore, and up until this picture she had always been an earth pony. During the first four months of 2025, when I did a lot of work for Lean/mathlib and eventually got part-time jobs at two different AI companies before learning that my PhD application to the National University of Singapore had been accepted – and accepting the offer – I had occasional thoughts about modernising Temmy.
"She should really be a hippogriff," I mused, though of course hippogriffs weren't in MLPFIM when she was originally created by Squeaky-Belle. "Singapore doesn't deserve to be represented by a lowly earth pony; our Peranakan culture and our national flower are both hybrids, so Temmy should be a hybrid too." There is a strong tropical theme associated to MLPFIM's hippogriffs, and we have made much out of being a tropical nation; I also thought earth pony Temmy's cutie mark – merely the Singaporean flag in a heart frame – was redundant given her moon-and-five stars hair accessories, and hippogriffs don't have cutie marks.
This vector was hammered out in a day, just before the 2025 general election in Singapore.
