Character Description

Halt was never supposed to survive. His mother, a weathered Mightyena, died shortly after his birth — her body unable to withstand the strain of carrying a child whose biology defied nature. His father, a nomadic Chesnaught, vanished into the fens after leaving the newborn at the edge of the Outcasts’ swamp, unsure if the child was a miracle or a mistake.

Background/History

Note: The Swamp Outcasts, a ragtag assembly of the discarded and the different, found him instead. It was Blunder — their grizzled, pragmatic leader — who first approached the trembling pup. Already covered in strange bone-like plates over dark fur, Halt looked more beast than babe. His exoskeleton cracked with every movement, shielding a dense inner frame reinforced like a walking fortress. But in those wild eyes, Blunder saw something rare: restraint.

Note: Halt grew fast and heavy, his body constantly caught between strength and fragility. His double-layered biology came with endless challenges. The exoskeleton hardened too quickly, cracking unless he molted often. The inner skeleton, meant for durability, created pressure against his organs if he pushed too hard for too long. Movement was clunky in his youth, and pain was constant. The others saw a brute, something to be feared or avoided. But Blunder saw potential.

Note: The old Outcast taught him control. Stillness. He trained Halt not to strike first, but to withstand. Blunder’s philosophy wasn’t built on glory — it was survival through will. “A real monster,” Blunder once told him, “knows when not to bite.”

Note: Halt embraced it. Though his strength could break trees, though his body could tank blows that would down a Rhydon, he sought peace. He learned to use his bulk as a wall, not a weapon — a guardian to those weaker than himself. The Outcasts, wary at first, slowly came to trust him — especially the young, who saw him as an immovable protector.

Note: But he still battles with the urges buried deep in his Mightyena blood — the hunt, the instinct, the thrill of violence. When threatened, his shell flares outward, the Chesnaught plating creating a fearsome image. His growl could paralyze lesser beings, and in the rare times he has fought, he has left craters in the ground. Yet Halt hates it.

Note: He plants trees where he’s caused damage. He binds his claws in bandages to remind himself not to lash out. He rarely raises his voice. To the Outcasts, he is a symbol — not just of strength, but of the choice not to use it.

Note: Halt fears his own strength as he has a hard time feeling sensation on his outer skin/plating, he prefers to live slightly away from the rest of the Outcasts as he constantly finds his own clumsiness a hinderance to maintaining relationships.
