Black Hole: The Book of Iratus, Episode 92

Chapter 911

Now that Iratus had a good look at the male feline, he realized he bore a striking resemblance to Fraus—only with darker gray fur and black hair instead of Fraus’s white. The feline woman then stabbed her so-called brother with her spear; it plunged deep, yet no blood emerged.

The clearly fake businessman sighed, and then a familiar female voice emanated from the puppet.

Buba: "Every time, with your wrathful antics."

The feline bared her teeth.

Fraus: "Vile creature, begone."

The puppet reached out and tried to grab the spear, but failed to dislodge it.

Buba: "Maybe I will—if I do, you'll never know what has become of your time."

Casually, Iratus interjected.

Iratus: "Actually, we already have most of the knowledge about the future… or, more accurately, about the history of our people."

Buba: "Poor Fraus here probably doesn’t know about her brother—burning to death as he desperately searched for your corpse in House Greenstone Forest."

Studium: "Greenstone? Isn't your house Brassmoon?"

Fraus sighed.

Fraus: "Married into Greenstone." She then turned back to the fabric puppet. "And you—I don't care about the past. Just leave us."

Buba: "I'm simply trying to give your character more depth."

Fraus: "All life is a stage, is it not?"

As the fabric began to peel away, two chitinous arms emerged and grabbed the spear, shoving Fraus aside. A pale, skeletal figure then emerged from the puppet, revealing a bipedal spider form with six arms, two thick, skeletal legs, and a mantis-like head with eight eyes scattered about.

Fraus thrust another spear, but Iratus saw it bounce harmlessly off the creature's white shell. Frustrated, he began smashing the handle of the fabric door with his hammer.

---

Chapter 912

The pale puppet snatched Fraus's spear, but she surged into action. With a burst of speed, she pushed against the puppet and, in one swift movement, released the spear. From her belt she drew a hammer—a weapon everyone had been carrying since battling the armored foes—and slammed it into the puppet’s head, cracking it.

By that time, Iratus, Studium, and Ardens burst into the room to aid Fraus. Within seconds, they hurled the pale puppet against the wall until it lay broken. Even in its unmoving state, it still managed to communicate.

Buba: "You wrenched creatures have ruined another perfectly good scene."

Iratus: "Then you should try to avoid us."

Buba: "As if I can control where my nets fall. They appear at the whims of Nexus Prime, and I have no control over them. Regardless, this sequel is ruined. I'm leaving."

With that, no further sound emerged from the puppet. Iratus delivered a few more hammer strikes to ensure the puppet could never rise again, just in case. Then the four left the room, with Fraus stealing one last look back at the television.

On the screen, the animated show now featured a team of musical mice facing off against robotic duplicates in a duel of tunes. Fraus sighed and rejoined the group.

Iratus: "Alright, the villain is defeated, and we have a whole building to explore."

Studium: "I just looked outside—everything’s still covered in webs."

Ardens sighed, her ringed tail swishing in annoyance as she was forced to stand and wait. Since she couldn’t speak the language, Iratus could only imagine how frustrating her position must be.

Fraus: "Then let's go. Those spiders could start filling in at any moment."

Iratus led the group upstairs to continue exploring the villa. After a few minutes, they reached a section that overlooked a small dock outside. As they peered out, Iratus suddenly sprinted to a glass door when he saw several people running by, chased by malformed, muscular creatures. Iratus suspected these monsters might just be more puppets.

Without hesitation, he opened the door. Iratus and his group leaped off the balcony onto the back of the villa, where the water lapped gently against the stone pier.

---

Chapter 913

The green, swamp-like monsters changed direction and lumbered toward Iratus’s group, moving like primates. To the side, Iratus spotted the group that had been chased by these creatures.

The first man was a raccoonfolk with classic raccoon fur, black hair, and a rugged look. He wore a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and carried a crowbar along with a tan backpack. The second man was a rabbitfolk with similar fur and hair colors, dressed in a black business suit that was torn up considerably. His only equipment was a belt holding an empty sword scabbard. The final person was a youthful lionfolk woman, clearly from a more modern time, with her lion features softened to resemble a typical feline. She had common tan fur, blonde hair, and striking gold eyes. She wore a black tube top and matching shorts, each adorned with orange flame patterns down the sides.

Iratus moved in to confront the monstrous creatures, dodging a wide, incoming swipe before countering by severing one of the creature’s arms—revealing it to be another fabric-made creation. There were two others, but his allies swiftly dealt with them.

Iratus noticed movement within the creature's chest and stabbed it, killing the spider inside. However, his allies weren’t as perceptive, and two spiders burst out, launching themselves at Studium.

Studium: "Why me?!"

He let out a panicked scream as Iratus and the others sprang into action to take down the large spiders. Once the spiders were dead, Studium collapsed to the ground, letting out weak whimpers as his body seemed paralyzed or close to it.

Iratus: "Silver hell, are you alright, Studium?"

Studium: "Ugh... I don't know. I’m not feeling too well."

The other group cautiously approached.

Raccoonfolk: "Wow, you guys really saved our hides. Thanks a lot."

Iratus: "Yeah, no problem."

The lion girl stepped forward next.

Lionfolk: "Kindred."

Iratus: "Kinsman." He gave a respectful nod to the lioness.

Meanwhile, the rabbit guy continued scanning the area for threats, just as Fraus and the red panda woman were doing.

Raccoonfolk: "Hey, I’m Certamen of the Lost Quickness. This here is Pusillanimitas of House Redtide, and the rabbit guy is Stridore Onyx Bladesworn. Any chance you can get us out of here?"

Iratus shrugged.

Iratus: "I’ll answer that once I figure out how to get out of here myself."

Certamen: "Ha, alright. But you’re an ally, right?"

Iratus: "I’m me. But for now, I’ll consider you a friend. I am Iratus of House Lionheart and the other cat is Fraus Brassmoon. The red panda over there is Ardens Ignifera, and she’s a stranger to us too."

Studium: "I’m... Studium of Winter Winds... Not feeling too well."

Pusillanimitas: "Same here." She pointed to her swollen left leg. "You’ll be up in a minute."

The rabbitfolk came closer.

Stridore: "Hey, we still have two other strangers in the villa. Come on, guys."

---

Chapter 914

Ardens stayed behind to watch over Studium while the others charged ahead. It didn’t take long before they discovered another section of the villa—a basement area where several of those black-suited, visor-wearing figures were pounding on a door. With their spears, they had managed to subdue five jolting creatures and the spiders within with relative ease.

After that, Iratus knocked on the door and spoke:

Iratus: "Pizza delivery."

Pusillanimitas: "You know what pizza delivery is?"

Iratus: "I may be from old times, but I’ve lived with enough modern folk to know what’s what."

Then, a voice from the other side of the door responded.

Male Voice: "I don’t recall ordering any pizza."

Iratus: "Well, it’s going to get cold if you don’t open up."

Male Voice: "I haven’t had much luck with pizza deliveries and strangers. How do I know you won’t attack us when I open the door?"

Pusillanimitas: "So they’re both here."

There was a brief struggle on the other side.

Male Voice: "Hey! Oh, come on!"

The door swung open, and Iratus’s group stepped back to let them out. The underground area was dark, and Iratus could only make out silhouettes. The male voice belonged to a male nixman, while the second person was a tall female—though Iratus couldn’t tell much about her until both groups moved into the room above.

The nixman looked quite similar to a human—albeit with longer, pointy ears, light purple skin, white hair, and a notably muscular build. He was slightly taller than Astrid and wore only sweatpants, with no shirt or socks.

Nixman: "And of course, you are all giants too."

Fraus: "The real difference between man-things and folk."

Iratus’s eyes widened when he saw the female. Her head resembled that of a wolf, yet her features were unique—her ears were a blend of feline and rabbit, and she sported a long, thick tail ending in a tuft of white fur. Her coat was pure white, and even her hair shone in a white-silver hue. She had digitigrade legs, like most furred folk, and two long whiskers drooped down from her face. Finally, she wore thick clothes that might have been some sort of military uniform from a more age of swords type era. The clothes were black and deep gray with a red shirt underneath. She too held a bronze spear but also had a small bronze shield as well.

Iratus: "Whoa, what is she?"

Nixman: "Fluff dragon."

Pusillanimitas: "Is she a bloodforged like us or a clay person like you?"

Iratus: "Or whatever makes the reptiles."

Nixman: "No, no—she’s a dragonfolk. That’s what I’ve been calling them since, on my planet—well, these people, and really all of you anthros, are considered fictional creatures of similar looks."

Fraus: "I think anthropomorphic animals are a common fictional trope on most planets."

After a moment of silence, Iratus spoke up again.

Iratus: "Uh, does she speak our language?"

Nixman: "Our language? Buddy, I don’t even speak it fluently. I was only lucky enough to survive long enough to learn… this language. Yeah."

Fraus: "You must have had an excellent teacher."

As Iratus’s group led the way back to the pier, Nixman continued:

Nixman: "I had this base of operations with electricity and watched a lot of movies and stuff for a while. I picked up a lot, but it wasn’t until I was forced to flee my home that I met someone who helped me finish my language lessons. But, as I said, I’ve had terrible luck with strangers—he was gunned down recently."

Certamen: "Damn. That’s awful."

Finally, the group made it back to Studium and Ardens, exchanging waves and greetings as they regrouped.

---

Chapter 915

Studium was back on his feet and able to walk around.

Studium: "What is she? A fluff dragon?"

Iratus: "Oh, of course—your planet has them too."

The conversation continued with everyone introducing themselves. The nixman introduced himself as Levi Ackerman.

Iratus: "That doesn't sound like a nixman name."

Levi: "Oh, and what is?"

Iratus: "Our nixman back home is named Astrid."

Levi: "Ah, an eastern name. Uh, eastern on my planet, you know."

Iratus: "Sure."

Levi: "Anyway, there were many nations on my planet—each with its own naming scheme. Some are closer than others, but you'll find my nation's the most hardy."

After some time, the group finally got the fluff dragon girl to speak her name—Bai Xue. She didn’t seem enthusiastic and remained quite reclusive.

Fraus: "So, what’s the story with everyone and this location?"

The raccoon man was the first to speak up.

Certamen: "Stridore and I were just cruising to our own jam when we turned down the wrong road and ended up here—to our surprise."

Stridore: "I, myself, didn’t even see the building until we walked through the gate. Silly me."

The lion girl raised her hand to indicate she was next.

Pusillanimitas: "I've been sailing by myself when I came upon this villa. And don't try to swim out there—there's another puppet, spider, sea-monster thing out there. It ate my little boat."

Then the nixman spoke next.

Levi: "I ran into that random dragon girl here. I tried to run away, but accidentally fell down the cliffs over there and ended up here. She, uh, kind of watched over me as we hunkered down for a few days. By the time I could move again, we were trapped here. The two of us have been stuck here the longest—fourteen days—and I'm not going to lie, I'm starving. Anyone have some rations?"

Iratus handed Levi some rations.

Iratus: "And the red panda?"

Levi: "New to me."

---

Chapter 916

Both the dragonfolk and the nixman eagerly grabbed many of the rations—they clearly hadn’t had much to eat lately. Small talk continued as everyone reached the front gate, where even more people were gathered.

Levi: "Seriously, did everyone just wander in here at the same time?"

Iratus noticed a cloaked figure; from her scent, he could tell she was female. Nearby, the group recognized the otterfolk and mousefolk they had been tracking. There was a dark-brown male otter wearing worn red-and-white linens, and a female mouse with black fur, white hair, and clothes consisting of a crop top and blue hot pants. Another figure stood out—a human, of all things—with short black hair, a scruffy beard, a yellow (almost pink) shirt, black pants, and a pair of glasses on his middle-aged face.

Iratus: "I guess it is kind of weird that everyone ended up here around the same time."

The otter man appeared defensive, while the mouse woman was less cautious.

Mouse Woman: "Kindred?" she asked Pusillanimitas, then turned to Iratus, "Kinsman?"

Iratus: "Trapped here too? Looks like Buba caught a lot of people this time."

Otter: "Buba? Again? Why won’t that crone leave us alone?"

Studium: "Well, it’s nice to know we aren’t the only ones fighting these monsters."

Fraus: "Considering how you found me—running from an ebony—that’s just how this world is."

The fox boy crossed his arms.

Studium: "Yeah, but Buba takes the form of familiar people to mess with everyone."

Levi: "She does that to everyone?"

Fraus: "Yeah. She once took the form of my brother, and Iratus here ran into her before—she even appeared as his friend's mother."

Levi: "And here I thought I was going crazy. The person who was killed—my language teacher—that was the form Buba took against me."

Pusillanimitas: "She took the form of my sister while I was here."

Stridore: "My grandmother."

Certamen: "Yeah, your fake grandmother nearly stabbed me in the face."

The human sighed, clearly struggling with the language as well. Levi stepped in to translate for him.

Iratus: "Another language you picked up?"

Levi: "You fur people have your common language, and humans and nixman share a similar language thing too."

---

Chapter 917

While Levi was filling the human in on the situation, Iratus worked to organize everyone into formation to fight off the spiders crawling over the gate.

Otter: "I don't know if we can cut our way through. There are two vehicles in the garage—if we can find some fuel, maybe we can drive through the webs."

Mouse: "That would be much safer and easier."

Certamen: "Stridore and I know about those vehicles too."

Pusillanimitas: "There’s some fuel in the water shack at the pier."

Fraus: "Then this idea might be worth trying. Plus, having two vehicles would be a bonus."

Iratus: "Alright. Let's all head down there."

Studium: "I'm still not feeling my best. Can I just rest in the garage?"

Soon, everyone arrived at the garage where two Humvees were stored. Ardens, Certamen, the mouse woman, and the human chose to stay behind. The otterfolk introduced himself as Pulvis, the mouse woman as Caedes, and the human Levi would say is Joe.

Iratus walked up to a cloaked figure lingering nearby.

Iratus: "Are you going to stay here or join us in venturing out for fuel?"

The cloaked figure replied in a gruff voice,
Cloaked Figure: "No speak language."

Iratus: "Uh, sure. Whatever—you do whatever you want, lady."

Cloaked Figure: "Lady? How can you even tell?"

That gruff tone seemed like a ruse.

Iratus: "I can smell it."

Cloaked Figure: "That's dumb! I call your bluff."

Fraus: "You greatly underestimate our sense of smell."

Cloaked Figure: "Whatever, leave me alone."

Without much emotion, Iratus and Fraus turned and left with the venture group to find fuel. The cloaked figure eventually joined them. For those without weapons, Iratus and Fraus offered various sidearms. Pusillanimitas refused to be armed, while the cloaked figure revealed a crossbow. When she flourished her weapon, Iratus got a better look at her form—it was clearly female, with gray fur along her face, but he still couldn't figure out what she was and she didn't have a tail even though she was furred.

---

Chapter 918

A few fabric men and spiders blocked their path, but calling it a battle wouldn’t be accurate. Iratus ensured every fight was calculated and efficient, so no one else was wounded.

As they advanced, the villa began to feel off—Iratus swore the layout wasn’t quite right. The mass of squirming spiders continued to work on their webs without trying to stop their progress. Once Iratus’s group reached the pier, he shrugged off his concerns, and everyone headed over to the water shack to look around.

Inside the shack, there was a small storage area for water vehicles, but none were stashed there. Various other water and naval items were scattered about, which Iratus ignored. Soon, Levi pulled out two canisters of fuel. After one last look around for other valuable items—of which no one took anything—the hooded figure was already rifling through the fuel.

Hooded Figure: "I was afraid of this. This fuel won't work."

Levi: "Is it outdated?"

Hooded Figure: "No, this is gasoline."

A nearby lioness giggled.

Pusillanimitas: "As opposed to what?"

Hooded Figure: "Assuming those Humvees are like the ones on my planet, they require diesel fuel—not unleaded gasoline."

Levi: "Oh! There are different kinds of fuel."

Iratus (playfully): "Useless!"

Pulvis: "God above, what do we do now?"

Fraus: "There’s a helicopter pad to the side of the villa. Maybe we can find fuel there."

Hooded Figure: "Jet fuel—don't even try it."

Iratus: "Maybe there’s another storage shed around here."

Fraus: "Is there? Besides this water shack, everything else is pretty sparse when it comes to supplies. Honestly, it’s kind of weird that there’s even any fuel or equipment here."

Iratus: "Well, we do have fuel—even if it's the wrong kind. We could always try to light those webs on fire."

---

Chapter 919

As the group made their way back through the villa, they soon found themselves lost in a shifting maze. The layout had changed completely from just a few minutes ago.

Pulvis: "I should have seen this coming. She did it to me again."

Iratus slammed a glass window with his hand as he flicked it.

Iratus: "At worst, we could just brute force our way through." He pointed outside with his thumb. "Or even just jump out a window."

Stridore: "Maybe. Let's see if we can circle around to the garage. It shouldn't be too far."

Fraus: "Nope, time for some glass smashing."

The feline girl stepped up to the glass window and tore it apart with her hammer.

Hooded Figure: "The Game Master probably worked on on their dungeon and we are just going to go around it. That is something I can relate to."

Iratus: "If you like tabletop roleplaying, you should check out my settlement."

Hooded Figure: "Stranger danger. Please step away."

Iratus: "I don't believe this."

Fraus was the first to exit, followed by Stridore. Levi and Pulvis worked together to get the fuel outside. Just as the two finished evacuating, a loud cracking sound echoed from the room. There was a brief pause as everyone listened—and then the room sank a little.

Fraus: "Are you guys coming or what?"

Pulvis reached his hand back into the collapsing space.

Pulvis: "Come over here, slowly."

Another crack resounded, and suddenly everyone inside the room tumbled down into the space below. Pulvis was among them, and the shattered window had sent shards of glass flying, impaling the otter slightly. The entire room didn’t just collapse—it dropped the group, minus those already outside, into a basement-like space or, more accurately, a cave beneath the villa.

Everyone quickly scrambled to their feet. Iratus and Bai Xue scanned the area for further danger while Pusillanimitas rushed to check on Pulvis, who bore a few cuts from the fall and the broken glass. The hooded figure quickly scrambled aside before lifting herself up.

Iratus (muttering): "Because everything has to go wrong."

---

Chapter 920

Fraus: "Ah, silver crap. Is everyone okay?"

Iratus: "Pulvis is a bit cut, but everyone else seems fine."

The group up above surveyed the area.

Levi: "I think that side can be climbed. Look—it’s sloped, and you can grab onto that fabric stuff to haul yourselves out."

Pusillanimitas: "Oh yeah, get me out of here."

Iratus peered down the cave. One path led to a set of stairs, but they would take them to the altered villa, so he ignored that route. Down the other path was a metal door.

Iratus: "Just a second. I'm going to see what's down here."

As he moved to investigate, Bai Xue silently followed him. Iratus examined the door and found it unlocked. Inside was a pitch-black room occupied by several fiber men wearing glass visors. With some improvised teamwork, the two managed to take them down—the spiders proved a bit more challenging, but using the door as a shield, Iratus lined them up while Bai Xue dispatched them without being bitten.

Inside, they found an empty room with a sandy floor. Tied to a chair was a person—a nixman. A second chair, with rope still wrapped around it, suggested that someone else had been bound there but was either removed or taken away.

Bai Xue approached the tied-up nixman, untied him, and tried to wake him. The nixman shook his head and looked up.

Nixman: "Oh, thank you. Huh? What are you?" He eyed the dragonfolk curiously.

Iratus: "Glad you’re bilingual."

Nixman: "You have to be to survive here." He stood up, though he had to wipe his eyes several times.

Iratus: "How long have you been down here?"

Bai Xue sighed, as if frustrated that she’d never find anyone who spoke her language.

Nixman: "An hour? Where’s the other guy?"

Iratus: "No idea."

Nixman: "So it’s just you two?"

Iratus turned around and saw that no one else had followed him—the rest of the group had already left the cave.

Iratus: "Sure looks like it."

Before anyone could react, several spider limbs tore from the nixman’s torso, and his chest split open. A large spider emerged, lunging at Bai Xue. Though caught off guard, she did not seem overly distressed as she prepared to defend herself.
