Tobias: Faces in the Shadows
The auxiliary power in the Grand Cross Dam’s control room buzzed faintly as Tobias, Blueberry, and Virtuoso worked to recover the security footage from the day of the blackout. With the island still reeling from the loss of power, Starfleet engineers were focusing on getting the dam operational again. But for Tobias, the priority was exposing the truth.
“Auxiliary systems are online,” Blueberry said, her blue eyes glowing faintly as she accessed the terminal. “The cameras were still recording during the sabotage. If Ivy’s siblings were in the control room, we’ll see them.”
Virtuoso stood nearby, her arms crossed. “And if we can identify them, we can tie Miyu directly to the blackout. It’s the proof we need.”
Tobias’s tail flicked anxiously. “Then let’s find it.”

Unmasking the Saboteurs
The footage began to play, displaying timestamps from the hours leading up to the blackout. At first, the control room was empty, the dam’s automated systems running smoothly. Then, movement caught their attention.
“There,” Blueberry said, zooming in on the screen.
The footage showed Ivy’s siblings entering the control room, accompanied by a squad of Mirai Guntai operatives. The scarred man barked orders as his sharp-eyed sister worked at the console, her fingers flying over the controls. Tobias felt his heart sink as he watched them disable the turbines and plant the explosives.
“They weren’t even trying to hide,” Virtuoso muttered, her red eyes narrowing. “They wanted this to look like a coordinated attack by Starfleet or the Pussyfoots.”
Blueberry froze the frame on a clear shot of Ivy’s siblings. “This is it,” she said. “We have their faces. Starfleet and the Pussyfoots will know exactly who’s responsible.”

The Rowes Are Freed
With the footage in hand, Tobias and his team returned to Starfleet Command. Admiral Castor watched the footage silently, her sharp eyes narrowing as the images of Ivy’s siblings filled the screen.
“This is irrefutable,” Castor said, her voice low but steady. “This clears your parents of any involvement. They’ll be released immediately.”
Tobias felt a wave of relief wash over him. “Thank you, Admiral.”
Castor’s gaze softened slightly. “You’ve done more than prove their innocence, Tobias. You’ve helped uncover a conspiracy that threatens us all. Your parents should be proud.”

A Reunion and a Decision
The next day, Tobias stood outside the detention center, his heart pounding as the gates slid open. Marina and Edwin Rowe emerged, their orange uniforms replaced with civilian clothing. Tobias’s ears perked up, and he rushed forward, throwing his arms around them.
“Mom! Dad!” he cried, his voice trembling.
Marina knelt down, holding him tightly. “Oh, sweetheart. We missed you so much.”
Edwin placed a hand on Tobias’s shoulder, his calm smile filled with pride. “You did it, son. You cleared our names.”
Tobias pulled back, his tail swishing happily. “It wasn’t just me. Blueberry, Virtuoso, and my friends helped. We all did it together.”
Marina glanced at Edwin, a hint of sadness in her eyes. “Tobias, there’s something we need to talk about.”

Choosing His Path
Later that evening, Tobias sat with his parents and the Kains at their temporary home. The conversation was warm but tinged with the weight of a decision Tobias hadn’t expected.
“We’ve been given an opportunity,” Marina said carefully. “While Starfleet clears our records, they’re offering us new assignments off-world. It’s a chance to start fresh, but it means we can’t take you with us right away.”
Tobias’s ears flattened slightly. “So... I’d stay here with the Kains?”
Rory leaned forward, his smile reassuring. “Only if you want to, kiddo. We’d love to have you.”
Fiona nodded, her sharp eyes softening. “You’re family now, Tobias. But it’s your choice.”
Tobias looked at his parents, his heart heavy but resolute. “I want you to take the assignment,” he said. “If it helps you get back on your feet, it’s worth it. And I’ll stay with the Kains until you’re ready.”
Marina’s eyes brimmed with tears as she hugged him tightly. “We’re so proud of you, Tobias. You’re stronger than you know.”

A New Chapter
As the Rowes prepared to leave for their new assignments, Tobias stood with them one last time at the spaceport. The goodbye was bittersweet, but Tobias felt a sense of peace knowing his parents were free and moving forward.
Back at the Kains’ home, Tobias settled into his room, feeling a sense of belonging he hadn’t felt in months. His friends visited that evening—Martha, Bruno, and Luna—all eager to hear about the footage and the Rowes’ release.
“You did it, Tobias,” Martha said, her mechanical rabbit perched on her lap. “You really cleared their names.”
“And you’ve got a place here with us,” Bruno added. “Whenever you need us.”
Luna smirked, her sharp teeth glinting. “And I’m always ready for whatever crazy thing happens next.”
Tobias smiled, his heart lighter than it had been in a long time. “We’ve still got work to do. Miyu’s not done yet. But with all of you, I know we can handle anything.”
As the group laughed and talked late into the night, Tobias felt a renewed sense of purpose. The battle against Miyu was far from over, but with his friends and family by his side, he was ready for whatever came next.
