I don't expect much out of people by default. What happened happened. Maybe if you were more active politically you might make a difference, but probably not. I don't blame you for not caring about politics, but people are scared for good reason. The Heritage Foundation wrote project 2025, which contains an agenda that labels as many government employees as possible as political appointees. Many government bodies are supposed to operate independently of the president's agenda, with exception to laws that get passed. They currently have protections against being fired by the president. This agenda would make it so that those employees, including election staff, CAN be fired by the president, and are answerable directly to him, allowing him to take some worrying actions without checks and balances.
Project 2025 also includes a national ban on porn (something that J.D. Vance floated in an interview with, I wanna say Times Magazine). I've heard people say this isn't likely, but assuming that's correct, having seen this pattern over and over myself, if they can't ban it all, they're going to try to chip away at it. (Texas has already put restrictions on it.) They will try to find some area of porn to attempt to ban that very few people will try to defend. Can you think of any porn like that?
Project 2025 also includes the fun little bit about classifying transsexuality and homosexuality as pornographic, full stop. If they just get this passed, and not a ban on porn, this alone would create some disturbing possibilities involving "being gay" or "being trans" if a child happens to be nearby.
And if anyone thinks Trump isn't connected to this, consider that he has been campaigning with the Heritage Foundation who wrote the damn thing, staffed his administration last time, hand-picked the supreme court justices he appointed, and gave huge payouts to other members of his cabinet after his term was over. Trump has also publicly said that the Heritage Foundation would play a major role in his administration.
So yeah, we're worried. Nothing would make me happier for you guys to be right about nothing happening, but considering little things like during his first term it was his generals who stopped him from deploying the military against US citizens and that's something he's repeatedly said he would do in his 2024 campaign, there is good reason to be worried. I hope none of this ends up affecting us, but it's anything but irrational to be concerned about it.

The one thing I'll agree with you on is this IS a failure of the democratic party. What that failure is is a matter of debate since all the indicators one usually looks for to predict who will win an election were pointing to Kamala, so this Trump win is a bit of a shock. Where we thought the voters were going on this was completely wrong. It is true that the democratic party has largely abandoned regular people ever since the Clinton Foundation shifted their strategy more towards pleasing big money doners just as the Republican Party had been doing, but also not utilizing the divide and conquer strategy that has served the Republicans so well up to this point.
As for whether or not he can do the things he says, I DON'T KNOW. Nobody does. It's that uncertainty that's unsettling. The Heritage Foundation is partnering with top Republican doners so there IS a danger of them trying to implement this agenda, and the chance of them getting any of it done is not zero.
As for addressing the price of groceries and housing, I mean.. he doesn't exactly have a plan to address that. Just says he will. I don't know what you want me to believe on that one.
