In another parallel universe, one of Sonic's kids did not have the sort of happy upbringing one would expect. Sonic was captured by the Egg Legion, but Akhlut had other plans to use him. The bully of an orca forced Sonic to impregnate him, later giving birth to the hybrid.
Nanook was unceremoniously made into a Legionnaire as well as part of the Orca Army, enhanced by Eggman's cybernetics--including a new arm when he lost his at the age of 10.
However, Nanook was not hardened into a warrior by the constant abuse of his father and the war he was subjected to, and quickly ran away with a stolen warp ring.
When he encountered Sonic, he was relieved to see his other father again, but a confusing meeting made him realize he'd jumped entire dimensions and landed in the Alpha Universe. Despite this, he forged a quick friendship with his father's alternate, and set up shop as part of the Artika Defense Force.
