Druddigon wanted to beat his record for the most laps done in one dive, though it's been a while since he'd practiced. As the minutes passed, his lungs struggled more and more, eventually burning... But, he absolutely refused to give up, and as he approached his record, his lungs gave out entirely! Grabbing his neck as he let out a flurry of stale bubbles, Druddigon thrashed about for a couple seconds before bolting for the surface. He'd been so close, both to his record and accidentally taking in water... He really needed to get back to practicing.

You don't see this pokemon underwater everyday, I hope he doesn't end up inhaling water in his later practices...

Yeah, I don't think anyone else has done underwater art involving a druddigon before!

He'll be fine, he's gonna be more careful after this.

They're definitely one of the more obscure ones, I don't remember why I picked them for this.

squirtlerocks07 and I did an RP based on this.

S: on a relatively normal day, a druddigon was going over to his pool to test out his breath holding abilites underwater, seeing how long he can last... before he could, a grotle appears from a nearby bush, having slept there for a while because of how tired he was, he didn't know where he was as he looks around curiously, only remembering him hopping into a bush and going to sleep

L: The druddigon stops as he sees the grotle. "Hey there. You seem sort of... Confused. Is everything alright?"

S: "H-huh?" the grotle turns to look at the druddigon, tilting his head in confusion as he's never seen this pokemon before
"I-i was just, taking a nap in that bush, and now...I don't know where I am..."

L: "You don't know where you are? Um... Well, you're fairly close to my house, at least. It's kind of just on its own, but I can help you get to a town if you need me to."

S: "Oh, well... that's ok, I'm still a little tired, um...if you don't mind me asking, what....exactly are you? I've never seen you before"

L: "I'm a druddigon. We're a bit rare around here, it's not really surprising that you don't know what I am. I at least know you're a grotle, though."

S: "Oh yeah, that's correct I am a grotle...anyways um...what were you doing before you found me?"

L: "I was heading out to my pool, I wanted to do some breath holding practice. You can come too if you want, I don't mind."

S: "Oh really? Well, I'm not super into swimming and most certainly not into breath holding...but it's the only lazy thing right now so...sure, might as well"

L: "Alright, cool. It's not far from here, shouldn't take more than a minute or so to get there." The druddigon leads the grotle to his pool.

S: "Ok" the grotle follows the druddigon towards where his pool is

L: The two get there fairly quick. It's a decently-sized pool, with plenty of room for the two of them should the grotle want to join in eventually.

The druddigon smiles as they both arrive. "And, here we are. It's been a long time since I've gone for a swim, this'll be nice..."

S: "It's been a while for me too... probably a few months since I've last gone in the water, heh...hopefully I'm not rusty at this"

L: "I think you'll be fine, I don't really see how someone could forget how to swim." The druddigon gets into the water, starting to swim.

S: "I guess so..." the grotle gets into the water as well, able to swim too

L: "See? Nothing to worry about!" The druddigon starts doing some laps for now.

S: "Guess I remembered after all!" the grotle does some laps around the pool as well to get used to swimming again

L: After a little bit, the druddigon speaks up again. "I'm gonna get started on my practice, if that's alright. The way I do it is by seeing how many laps I can do on one breath, if you're curious." He starts taking deep breaths.

S: "Oh, well I don't wanna be alone, so..could I do them with you?" the grotle was a little unsure if he could keep up with the durddigon, but is willing to try nonetheless

L: "You can if you want, just keep in mind you're probably not going to be as good as me. My record is 58 laps, over about 18 minutes."

S: "What?! That's crazy! I don't think I could do that, heh"

L: "Heh, yeah, I've had a lot of practice... Don't try too hard to match me, alright? Once you're really struggling, get up and get a quick breath, then come back down if you want."

S: "Yeah, I guess so... can't even remember what my best time is...so I guess I'll be a surprise, anyways...let's do this" the grotle takes some deep breathes too

L: "We'll just have to see..." Eventually, the druddigon holds his breath and dives, starting to swim the length of the pool.

S: "Oh boy..." the grotle was a little hesitant, but eventually he takes a last gasp and holds it before diving under as well, swimming alongside the druddigon

L: Looking over at the grotle, the druddigon gives them a nod and continues his swim with a determined expression.

S: the grotle puffs its cheeks up as it holds its breath tightly, swimming alongside durddigon in doing the underwater laps, he's visibly nervous as it's been so long since he's been underwater, but he's managing for now

L: Noticing how nervous the grotle is, the druddigon pats their head and smiles at them, hoping to help keep them calm during this practice.

S: the grotle calms down a bit from the head pats, letting some small bubbles escape him

L: Some time passes as the two swim their laps, getting over 10. The druddigon is still going strong, with only a slight blush from strain.

S: the grotle on the other hand was starting to struggle, his face was fully red, whimpering a bit with how low on breath he is, but he continues nonetheless, wanting to feeling stronger then ever

L: The druddigon glances over at the grotle every now and then to check on them, but seeing them about as determined as he is, he doesn't worry about them much.

S: as the two keep swimming, we hit 16 minutes, and eventually the grotle's face is blue quickly, grunting a lot from strain as he's struggling to fight through it, and keep swimming

L: The druddigon is straining a lot as well, grunting, but not whining, with his face blue as well. Still, he keeps going, trying to ignore his burning lungs.

S: Soon, 20 minutes passes, and now the grotle is in serious trouble, his face turning purple as he keeps whining a lot, lots of bubbles escaping him, and eventually he couldn't take it anymore, so he takes a detour and swims up to the surface, gasping heavily for air, it takes him a few seconds to catch his breath before he holds his breath again and dives back down to rejoin the druddigon, hoping they will surface as well

L: But, the druddigon just keeps going despite his now purple face. Bubbles trickle away as he forces himself to keep swimming, his movements starting to get a bit frantic as he approaches his limit.

S: at this point the grotle is getting concerned, he's worrying that the druddigon may be pushing himself too far, he can't let his new friend drown, so he decided to intervene, he swims in front of the druddigon to stop him, gesturing to the surface frantically for him to get air

L: Even at that, the druddigon just swims around them... But, a moment later, he stops and covers his mouth, frantically kicking his legs as bubbles repeatedly spurt away, on the edge of starting to drown!

S: "Ablhhhh!!!!" the grotle let's out a bubbly scream as the druddigon is on the near brink of drowning, he quickly swims over to them from underneith, starting to push them up to the surface themselves, he just hopes the druddigon will actually listen and go get the air he desperately needs

L: The druddigon can't hold his breath any more, exhaling a cloud of bubbles as his lungs give out. FINALLY, he frantically swims for the surface, just barely making it in time before he'd take in any water as he desperately gasps.

S: the grotle lightly gasps for breath himself, carrying the druddigon to the edge of the pool and setting him down gently, shaking his head
"Dude, that was too close! You really shouldn't push yourself that far...it's not healthy..."

L: "S-sorry... G-got carried away..." The druddigon lays on the side of the pool as he recovers, his face going back to blue, then red, heavily panting.

S: "Jeez bud... don't scare me like that again...I legit thought you were gonna drown right there!"

L: "Y-yeah, that was a bad idea..." The druddigon sits up, giving the grotle a little smile. "But, 65 laps! New record for me!"

S: "I mean, congrats but don't do that again... I did at least managed to hold my breath for quite a while..."

L: "You did great too, yeah! We should definitely have a bit of a break for now, though, my lungs are sore..."

S: "Mine are a bit sore too, so I think that's a great idea...what a practice..."

L: "Yeah, my practice tends to get pretty serious..." The druddigon shifts to have his legs hanging into the water while he sits on the edge.

S: the grotle shifts as well, hanging his back legs into the water, this position makes him look like he's standing on his hind legs while sitting down on the edge of the pool

"I see... but why does it have to be so serious? Don't you like to take things casual every once in a while?"

L: "I do, I don't just practice every single time I come here. Sometimes I just lay on the bottom for a while, blowing bubbles and watching them float up."

S: "Now THAT sounds more my style when it comes to submerging...I did that one time before and it was pretty relaxing"

L: "I actually learned how to blow bubble rings while I was doing that, it always feels pretty cool to make them."

S: "Really? That's cool! I bet that was fun to do! Hehe!"

L: "It is, yeah! I've been working on learning how to make bigger bubbles as well, but I've been having a bit of a hard time with that."

S: "Oh I see, yeah bigger bubbles can be a bit tricky, I've never done it before, but maybe with practice you can do it eventually"

L: "I hope so, I really like the idea of being able to blow really big bubbles. But, druddigons can't learn Bubble, so I have to figure it out the hard way."

S: "Yeah that's true...I don't know but your smart so I think you'll find a way, anyways...what should we do now?"

L: "I'm feeling better now, so I think I want to do some more swimming." The druddigon hops back into the water. "Or at least just relax underwater."

S: "Hmm, ok then, maybe we can relax underwater then" the grotle hops back into the water too

L: "I think that'd be a good way to unwind after that first dive, yeah." The druddigon starts deeply breathing again.

S: "Ok then!" the grotle takes some deep breathes too

L: After a while, the druddigon holds his breath and dives back down, heading toward the bottom of the pool this time.

S: the grotle holds his breath as well and dives, letting his body sink to the bottom of the pool

L: Once the two are laying on the bottom together, the druddigon puffs out a bubble ring to show off that he can, smiling at the grotle.

S: the grotle's eyes go wide as the druddigon makes a bubble ring, he smiles and nods at him, impressed by it, he let's a few bubbles loose himself

L: Over time, the druddigon occasionally lets out more bubble rings, though not too many, keeping a good amount of air for himself.

S: the grotle watches to be sure the durddigon isn't letting out too much air, before he closes his eyes to rest, his cheeks softly puffing up

L: The druddigon does eventually stop bubbling and just relaxes, closing his eyes as well and putting his eventual need to breathe to the back of his mind.

S: the grotle gets closer to the druddigon for comfort as he relaxes fully, even drifting off a little

L: Laying an arm across the grotle in a sort of hug, the druddigon smiles a little as he too starts to feel a little bit sleepy from how relaxed he is.

S: the grotle smiles as he feels the druddigon's arm on him, the only signs the two are holding their breath are the little bubbles escaping him and the grotle's lightly puffed up cheeks

L: After a little while longer, the druddigon actually manages to completely fall asleep! Still not even puffing his cheeks, he shows no strain at all.

S: Soon, the grotle also manages to completely fall asleep! He feels very much at ease despite the environment around them, just letting small bubbles escape his nostrils every once in a while

L: Quite some time passes by as the two Pokemon sleep on the bottom of the pool together, though it eventually starts becoming clear that they can't keep it up forever, both of them slowly starting to blush.

S: but the grotle remains asleep, letting out a very quiet grunt of strain

L: The druddigon doesn't show any sign of getting restless either, still just calmly napping, though bubbles are coming from him a little more often.

S: same goes for the grotle...they've been napped for a little over 20 minutes already tho

L: Eventually, the druddigon does start to shift a little in his sleep as his face goes red, grunting some as he starts to struggle just a little.

S: the grotle shifts as well, his own face red as a lot more bubbles escape him, grunting louder as well

L: And, finally, after another couple minutes, the druddigon wakes up. It takes him a brief moment to realize where he is, then he remembers the grotle as well, looking over to make sure they're okay.

S: the grotle is somehow still fast asleep, even with a fully red face and grunting more as well

L: The druddigon considers whether to wake them up... And decides he probably should, gently patting them.

S: the grotle shifts again from the pats, but he still doesn't wake up, he's having a really good dream right now

L: Figuring they'll wake up just fine once they need to, the druddigon heads up to breathe, then returns to wait for the grotle.

S: even as the grotle's face starts turning blue, and the grunting gets worse, he remains asleep through it all

L: By this point, the druddigon's starting to consider waking them up anyway... But he gives them a bit longer just in case.

S: eventually the grotle's face is fully blue, shifting around uncomfortablely

L: Now, finally, the druddigon is too worried about the grotle to leave them asleep any longer, and he tries harder to wake them up. "Mmm!"

S: the grotle shifts again, but he's still not awake just yet

L: The druddigon decides to get serious about waking the grotle. "Wablke ublp, yoblu're goblnna drblown!" He shakes them some.

S: the grotle eventually opens his eyes finally, but he was so deep in dream world, he forgets where he was

L: "Geblt ublp anbld geblt aiblr!" Unsure if he'd be able to lift the grotle, the druddigon hopes they'll quickly remember where they are.

S: "Whblat do yblou meblan?" it seems the grotle was so sleepy, he completely forgot he was underwater right now and low on air

L: "Loblok ublp!" The druddigon gestures toward the surface, and blows more bubbles to try to remind them.

S: "Hbluh?" the grotle looks up and sees the bubbles, getting even more confused as his vision isn't 100%, he's was very sleepy and yet he still has no clue where he is!

L: "Webl're unblderblwatbler ibln mbly poblol, whblat's tablkinblg yoblu sblo loblng tblo reblmembler!?"

S: "Whblat?!!" the grotle now realizes his surroundings, covering his mouth with one of his legs as he snapped out of it already

L: "Geblt swblimmbling, yoblu're alblmosblt gobling publrplble!" The druddigon does his best to lift up the grotle to help them out, realizing they've now sort of switched roles from the earlier practice swim.

S: "Oh nblo!!" the grotle immediately jumps off the bottom and starts to swim up to the surface frantically

L: The druddigon keeps pushing them up from below, at least speeding them up some even though it may not be much, and he ignores his own need for air as he blushes again.

S: eventually, the grotle almost inhales the water but just in time he surfaces and gasps heavily for air

L: The druddigon surfaces next to them with a gasp of their own. "I can't believe you forgot you were underwater! I-I mean, I did too for a sec, but nowhere near that long!"

S: the grotle takes a moment to catch their breath fully before speaking
"I-im sorry... I was so relaxed and sleepy that I didn't even realize I was still underwater...not sure how that happened"

L: "It's alright... It was at least pretty neat to be able to sleep underwater, I've never done that before! And that must have been a fairly long time, too!"

S: "Yeah, that was a good nap... I wonder how long we were asleep... I didn't keep track"

L: "I didn't either, but if I had to guess, maybe about 25 minutes? So, another new record!"

S: "Nah, it felt longer then that... but still that's impressive, for both of us"

L: "Yeah, that worked out pretty great! For now though, I think I've had enough swimming..."

S: "Yeah me too... at least I had a good nap... I don't know if I told you but, I don't really have a home at the moment... I've just been living near the city and everywhere else in between... and your like the first real friend I've had in years..."

L: "Aw, that really sucks... I guess that explains why you didn't know where you were earlier... You can stay at my place while we get something figured out, alright?"

S: "W-wait, really?? You'll really let me stay at your place?!"

L: "Of course! It's not safe to just live out in the wild, and I'm not about to force a new friend to do that."

S: "Awww, thank you so much..." the grotle give the druddigon a big hug, smiling warmly

L: The druddigon hugs them back. "No problem! Now, let's get dried off, and I'll show you around my house. We'll need to find a good spot for you to sleep."

S: "Ok then! This is best day of my life!"

L: After the two dry off, they head to the druddigon's house together, where the druddigon helps the grotle get settled in for as long as they need to stay.
