Well, that’s pretty much the whole description, actually. Additionally, I had made remixes of “Happy Birthday” for my birthday for a few years. The problem, however, is that I would try to follow the original transcription of “Happy Birthday” as closely as I could while still making it sound interesting. Have you heard the original version of the “Happy Birthday” song? It’s depressing! It sounds like someone died and you’re burying them on their birthday and as you’re lowering them into their grave, that is the song that’s playing!
Well, this time around, I wanted to change that. Loosely keeping the original “Happy Birthday” melody – and only the melody – I decided to reharmonize the entire piece around the melody to make it sound happier and hopeful. As for the style choice, well, I wanted a style that just sounds happy and energetic – this song is meant to be played at birthday parties! It’s supposed to be happy and fun and pump you up for your birthday! So, the obvious choice was jumpstyle. I’ve listened to jumpstyle a lot – Manian, ItaloBrothers, Scooter, etc – but I’ve never really tried to make it myself. This song turned out so much better than I could have imagined that I really enjoy listening to it.
Also, I guess this is just going to be a thing for me now, like I guess my signature sound, but I really like ending songs, no matter how energetic, with emotional piano renditions of the melody!
