QUICKIE: Crust
Seems Tasli is engaging in small talk at the bus stop, with a disposable side character I'll likely never use again. Let's pry...

EDDIE (picking): "Ha-ha! Your ears look funny!"

TASLI (cooly): "That's because they're fake, and their fur isn't on"

EDDIE (curious): "Yeah? Well, how'd they get fake?"

TASLI (in story mode): "A long time ago, a magician put on a show at my school. I volunteered to be pulled from his hat...
but the magician was really bad at magic, so all he got were my ears---the rest of me was still in my seat!"

EDDIE (incredulous): "Nuh-uh!"

TASLI (matter-of-fact): "It's true! My ears wouldn't go back on, so my dad sold them to a restaurant: rabbit ears are a delicacy---they can be fried like chips!"

EDDIE (incredulous): "And you used the money to buy pretend ears?"

TASLI (sighful): "No, the magician's insurance paid for them. My dad spent the restaurant money on booze"

EDDIE (accusing): "Fake ears indeed! I don't believe your story---you're lying!"

TASLI [removing his ears]: "Am I?"

EDDIE (shocked): "Eep!"

And so all doubt has been removed: Tasli's ears are fake ...but is his story true?

Pencil...

The featured pencil is the 'КоНстРУкТоР' or 'Constructor' from Krasin Pencil Co (Russia).
These pencils were painted in a variety of colors, though the lead inside is just graphite.
This pencil is marked 'M', which translates to 'B', indicating this is a soft pencil. Hard pencils would be marked with a 'T', which translates to 'H'.
So a Russian pencil marked (say) '4M' would be a '4B'; a '3T' would be a '3H'. The Russian equivalent of an American/German 'HB' would be marked 'TM'. :3

Always love these little weird comics from you. They really brighten my spirits. Thank you! :D

And the markings and your explanation about that pencil reminded me of the car Homer was thinking of buying on The Simpsons from a LONG time ago.

 https://youtu.be/07vdtBMG4Kg?si=5T5ZNrN4JNfhDQof

This was back when the Yugo was "popular" and everyone was talking about how truly cheaply they were made and how cheap they were to buy. My favorite parts of that little bit are the salesman telling homer to put it in "H" and the fly hood ornament which pretty much said everything about that car!! :D

So ya translating Cyrillic to English is always fun. It's not the pencils fault but it deals with it pretty well. Do you have one you can draw with or is that your only specimen.

The story is false; Tas suffers from a common, yet underreported childhood ailment, cloth-ears. Symptoms include being unable to hear a parent's commands and reprimands, high energy and general mischievousness. Though cubs often grow out of it, you will surely have met many adults who's ears seem just painted on.

Tis indeed a common affliction!

I'd believe it to be true. After all, it would explain why Tasli never listens to anything told to him. No ears? Plausible deniability. :3

Now to see if his tail is real >;3

"...though the lead inside is just graphite."
The funny part about that is that if it's 1900's Russia, the lead is graphite but the paint ON the pencil could be LEAD!

Most pencils made before (I think) the mid 1970s were coated in lead paint.

Eddie could be reused for similar stories as a stock jerk character. :-) Cute btw! :-)
