Inktober/Brocktober Day 1: Hanging out the Laundry. The prompt was 'pegging' - what else was I going to do??!

Although one of the prompt lists I'm using is the Kinktober one, I'm not necessarily going to go for the kinky side of things. Kind of is the opposite idea to their SFW list, where they suggested using the safe suggestions and drawing kink out of it. Ah well.

I actually had this idea for 'pegging' last year, but it was a prompt after I finished doing it. Still, here we are now - Laura (Ellie and Alex's mum) is being helped by Daisy (Maeve's daughter) to hang up the laundry. Cute scene.

Progress video timelapse also included for your viewing pleasure.

That was interesting seeing how you work. How long did all of that take in real time?

About 3 hours according to the software, not sure if all that time was spent actually drawing though.

I use a stopwatch to record how much time it takes me to create my art, however I only really count the time that I'm either putting down lines, making modifcations or cleaning up lines, or making observations of what needs to change. If I'm idle for too long though I just stop the timer. Often I stop it just to have a breather, to grab some more water or just take a break to come to it later.

My last piece was like that. It says it took 53 minutes but in actuality I was working on it on and off for most of the afternoon. And since I was designing a new character most of that time was actually spent trying out character designs I didnt end up liking.

Its hard to say whether the breaks and pauses should be included in the creative process. In theory one could work for one or two hours straight just making lines and corrections until you have something you like, but this would generally be exhausting. The pauses do seem to at least be part of the creative thought process as often the reason for stopping is being unsure what to do next. Often I'm still thinking of ideas even while Im idle or doing something else. The writing process can be similar with pauses to reflect on if the writing is working and what direction it should take next.

I started scribbling today, too again.

And I guess I was pegging today as well(?). xD
