This is my first test work of my slice of life "photo" style art!
Using environmental storytelling, I want to capture a moment in a character's life and give the feeling of looking through a photo album. Also, rather than forcing the art to show every part of a character's body, these will crop the character as needed to fit the scene appropriately. I chose the size, layout and desaturated colors for a specific purpose, too. The canvas size is 8x12", and clients are sent a resized version of 4x6", which is the most common size for photo frames! And the hope is that the desaturated colors will have a little mercy on your printer, ha ha. -------------------- The inspiration behind this specific one is pretty straight forward. When I want to decompress after work or something stressful, I've been finding a lot of peace of mind in grabbing some crayons and scribbling around. Even before I learned what ABDL or Little headspace was, it was actually my therapist who suggested I do this to de-stress! Grabbing some cheap crayons and purposefully drawing without intent or care for quality is incredibly therapeutic. I've spent many nights in this exact scene you see here; dressed in colorful clothes and accessories that make me feel cheery, listening to my favorite music, and sitting with a beloved stuffed animal or two. I genuinely recommend trying it out and letting your mind wander while you scribble aimlessly!
For the art itself, I tried a few iterations before settling on this specific shading style. At first I wanted to use screen tones, but unfortunately the moire caused from the dots was too unpredictable and unpleasant to view, so I switched cel shading as a backup plan. -------------------- If you like the look of this and want one for yourself, orders are now open! I’m offering both greyscale ($60+) and color ($90) options. Further information on pricing, content, delivery, etc. is on the form, so give it a read if you're interested! The form will stay open for a few days, and I will contact you within 5 business days to confirm, wait-list or decline.
Aw, this is lovely. The idea of doing slice of life 'photos' like this is really cool, and I do like how this piece focuses on character and story-telling over other considerations. It's such an adorable scene, too. I love the charm bracelet and necklace and the little strawberry hair clip. And it's such a lovely idea as well. While I tend to use other methods to decompress, it does look like a fun way to do it, and being able to allow yourself to just create, and to heck with "getting it right" can feel so, so good. Fantastic stuff, and it's always a treat to see more of Mal!

Thank you! I'm glad that the photo style is resonating with people in the way I'd hoped it would.
I adore those little accessories in the drawing; I have all of them in real life, ha ha! It's fun to get to capture them forever in this little art moment.

If I were to be honest? Crayola crayons work better for abstract backgrounds. Especially when burnished with Prismacolor's colorless blender. Although I will admit. I love the smell of the crayons because it makes me feel comfortably age regressed even though I may be using them with professional color pencils. Holbine, Prismacolor, and Polychromos.
Sometimes its just a need that only imagined little headspace can fill. At least for me it helps with my spirituality. "Child like faith and child like love." This art you made expresses that nicely. Very cute and adorable!

I feel the same about that crayon smell. It's such a nostalgic scent! I have used crayons in commissions before, they're great for overlaying on a solid color area to simulate wood texture, for example.
Thanks for the compliments on the art! It really is a piece that means a lot to me.
