Sonic and Tails had just come home from another long fight with Eggman. "Sonic? We will ever have time for fun?" Tails asked innocently.
"I'm sure we will. For now, lets relax." Sonic stretched.
"No!" Tails exclaimed. "We always relax after a fight! We never do anything fun like regular kids!" Tails said angrily. "Its the same thing every day! Why can't we be kids? Have fun at a playground or something?" He started crying.
"Tails..." Sonic was speechless. "If we let our guard down, Eggman could destroy Station Square." He said concerned.
"Sonic, we just destroyed his entire base! It'll take a while for him to recover from that. So please! Just for today, can we at least be like normal kids, and play?" Tails pleaded.
Sonic sighed. "Fine. Climb aboard." Sonic lowered himself.
"What are you doing?" Tails asked.
"Remember when I use to carry you on my shoulders? Lets see if you still can." Sonic smiled. Tails shrugged, and gently climbed on his shoulders. "Uff... You gained some weight..." Sonic huffed, standing up.
"Lets see if you can still break the sound barrier with me on board." Tails challenged. Sonic sped away, going fast. "Go, Sonic! Wooooo!" Tails cheered. Sonic took a detour. "This isn't the way to the playground!" Tails noted.
"I know. I want to break the sound barrier, and I can't do that in the short distance from our home to the playground. Besides, I like running around." Sonic explained.
"You like it? I thought you loved it!" Tails wondered.
"I do love it! Woohoo!" Sonic ran through a loop, and went the speed of sound, creating a loud boom. Tails awed at Sonic's incredible speed. "I still got it!" Sonic screamed to the air.
Tails giggled, and admired Sonic secretly. "I have to tell him... I love him... More than a brother... I need to be brave." He thought to himself.
"Anybody home?" Sonic was knocking on his head.
"Ow!" Tails winced.
"Sorry. Needed to tell you, we're here." Sonic openly gestured to the playground.
"I was in deep thought." Tails rubbed his head.
"I could tell." Sonic shrugged. "Lets go in." He took Tails hand. "He's so cute." Sonic thought. "I love him. More than a brother. I have... I have to tell him." He concluded.
"Sonic?" Tails was snapping his fingers in his face.
"You got me doing it now." Sonic laughed as they went inside.
"Look at everything they have here!" Tails said in awe. "A huge jungle gym with slides and a ball pit! A moon bounce, an obstacle course, bumper cars, laser tag, mini golf, an arcade!" Tails listed the things he saw.
"This place has it all!" Sonic walked around.
Tails took his shoes off, placing them in a cubby. Sonic followed suit. "Its weird taking off my shoes." Sonic cringed.
"Ehh you'll get them back eventually." Tails shrugged.
"Well, lets play." Sonic gestured to the equipment. Tails led, climbing up and down the levels. He giggled all the way. "What a cute laugh." Sonic thought, blushing. Tails made it to the top, and waited for Sonic. He noticed his flexing arms, pulling himself up.
"He sure is strong..." Tails thought. "Come on, Sonic! I'm waiiiiiting." He imitated. Sonic suddenly appeared in front of Tails. Sonic gave him an intense stare, which made Tails back away. "Sonic... You're scaring me..." He whimpered.
"Sorry. I don't like it when people imitate me." He growled, but then smiled. He sat at the top of the slide. "Want to ride in my lap?" Sonic offered.
"Yes!" Tails gently sat in his lap. Sonic pushed off, and went down the slide. "Wheeeeeee!" They squealed. Tails felt a small cuddle from Sonic's face. He returned it subtlety. "Wah!" Tails lost his balance at the end of the slide, and fell on his hands. "Phew." He sighed. Sonic looked towards the ball pit. Tails nodded, and bolted towards it. "Yahooo!" He squealed as he jumped in. Sonic jumped in as well. Tails squealed and giggled, rolling and tussling in the balls.
"Ball fight!" Sonic threw a ball at Tails, hitting him in the back of the head. "Aye!" Tails winced, throwing a ball back. Their ball war continued, until Tails collapsed laughing. "I surrender!" He threw his arms up. Sonic went silent. Tails listened for Sonic.
"Surprise!" Sonic took Tails in his arms.
He giggled "Hey! Put me down!" He squirmed.
"Nope. You're too cute." He smiled.
Tails blushed. "Really?"
"Really." Sonic also blushed. He tightened the embrace. Tails cuddled him.
"Sonic?" Tails inquired.
"Yeah?" He answered. "I... I... I love you!" He said loud and proud, yet blushing.
"I know that." Sonic chuckled.
"No, I mean more than a brother! I want... I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He said honestly.
"Tails... I love you too." He put Tails down, and turned him around. He then hugged Tails properly. Tails returned it, purring. "You're so fluffy." Sonic purred, petting him in the embrace. Tails pet him back, being cautious of his quills. Sonic looked at Tails face, and Blue met Green. A spark of love ignited between them, as their faces drew closer.
"I love you." They said at the same time. Sonic and Tails lips met, sharing an intimate kiss. Tails heart melted, and Sonic's sang in joy. Tails fell backwards, allowing Sonic to be on top. Their kiss continued for a long time. All their adventures together, all the time spent as brothers seemed to come together in this perfect moment.
When they broke, Tails was panting. "Beautiful..." He said breathlessly.
"Way past cool." Sonic said his catchphrase.
"Let's go home." Tails purred.
"Yeah." Sonic picked him up in his arms, and ran with Tails home, where they held each other close, and kissed until the sun came up the next day.
