....he took the form of a cartoon character. Apparently a well known one. Either he isn't very bright, or this is some sinister plot that involves getting captured.

He'll claim the latter. It's absolutely the former.

The way I see it, If he's a former rebel leader, exiled, and still alive, there's two possibilities: genius or stupid.

Yeah, I'm not putting any money on this one.  8)

Considering how much he loves getting in close quarters with Rayco to get a shot at his kidneys, I'm willing to bet this is the latter.

Of course, it could be both.

I find it amusing that after dealing with a hostage situation, their thoughts are "what's for lunch?" like it's just another day at the office!

As far as Elder knows, he killed Rayco before the place exploded on him, so he's got a big surprise coming!

Not quite. In chapter 1, right before he escaped the energy plant, he could hear two workers talk about Rayco, so he knows he's alive.

Where can I find chapter 1? It doesn't seem to be on IB or FA.

What does this cesspit have against inorganic life or self-directed evolution?

A lot of Esperanzan citizens are artificial or mutant, but you don't let in unidentified creatures with special capabilities without knowing if they are a potential threat.

So just another bunch of jerks willing to hurt and reject people to maintain their monopoly on violence

That's certainly a take which makes it obvious that you haven't read the rest of the comic. Please do that.

Now I remember having read the previous issues of the comic but I know I have memory issues so I went back back and read the entire thing again, I stand by my statement . It is a dictatorship in which its minimalist legal structure is used by those in power to kill with impunity. So yes it is a bunch of jerks trying to maintain a monopoly on violence
AlyssaKamber

Did you notice, by any chance, that they only get violent when people are breaking the First Law? Which is, basically, "you may not intentionally cause harm to any other citizen for any reason." That's the very first and most important law on this country's books.

But please explain to me how they're violent against citizens who haven't broken the law.
theian

They are by their own admittance a dictatorship, they can change these laws whenever they like and there are no laws or systems to protect them from the government should the government decide to enact more laws or expand the definition of laws to encompass their ideological opponents

Here's the thing about all this: this is fantasy. You'll need to put on your Fantasy Setting Glasses and cease seeing it through the real-world lens. I hope you'll actually read what I wrote below.

The creator of this setting says that, while it is a dictatorship, the dictator is benevolent and genuinely cares about the citizens. The only people who get hurt in the process of protecting citizens can get fully patched up, because alien medical science makes that a simple task. Everyone who can be taught that their hatred is wrong will be.

Will you dispute an author's right to say, "my setting works and is genuinely a good place, because I say that for the sake of the stories I'm telling, it does and it is"? Must that not be allowed in fiction because it doesn't work in real life? That's the bottom line here: are you telling the author that their setting should not be allowed to be the way they say it is?

Listen, I get where you're coming from, I'm not the biggest fan of dictatorships, either, even ones which claim to be benevolent, but how is this an example of that? Any society has a duty to the safety of its people, and it's not safe to let just any powerful people in without getting an idea of who they really are.

Trust, but verify. Always.

All I hope is there will not be any earth shattering kaboom if those two, who got exposed, touch each other...

Your stuff always looks so good. <3

This is a bit confusing, though. From ground level, outside of Esperanza, they just see a big round wall and door. I understand that might not look impenetrable to skilled folks, but how do you judge if it's facistic from that? XD

I think maybe it's just that person's personality...

And yeah, Elder is kinda nuts. He literally shapeshifted right outside the door. Do they not have cameras out there? Did I ask that before and they don't? This feels familiar somehow. It really seems like they ought to have known they were coming for a long time before they got in there. ^.^;;

Architecture, I guess? xD
Relee

The weird thing is if a surprisingly tall grey wall is the only architecture you have to go on, I don't think it would reduce my expectation of facism.Though, maybe they saw the farm on their approach. XD

I'm excited to see what comes next!
