Shiro Tanaka. A gifted young man with a bright future ahead of him, paved with the myriad of connections owed to his shady uncle. Those that came to know him were quick to capitalize on his youth, which earned him the name “baby eyes”, due to his rather youthful gaze. But past the veil of his supposed innocence, he quickly made a name for himself as a hard nosed detective. Small, wiry, thin, and overtly youthful in appearance, he was a unique exception to the line of middle-aged investigators of New Havens Police Department, Trenton district. Being an akita, his body was covered in a shiny turquoise aquamarine fur coat, contrasting against snow white highlights. While he was coached throughout highschool by his somewhat less-than-reputable uncle, Shiro learned rather quickly through his work what it really meant to be of the police department. He knew just the right questions to ask, when to ask them, and wasn't afraid to indulge in more than a little police brutality and embezzlement along the way, if he was certain to get away with it. There was a contrasting balance between doing the right thing and indulging in the vices of life, but he still fell short of the law when all was said and done. Strangely enough, he enjoyed a curious popularity and power between the echelons of the criminal underworld and among the ranks at the station, but this was limited by the fact that he was granted an incredibly high berth of privileges without having legitimately earned them. An inflated pension, a swollen pay check, and incredibly loose and flexible hours. While the knowledge of these financial particulars were limited to a select few, it didn't remove the criticisms and suspicions of his peers. It also didn't help that he often frequented The Wayward Vixen on more than just one occasion while on the job, usually for a drink or a quickie with one of the girls. Old habits died hard with the young dog, whose playboy lifestyle was dashed by the grim realities of his work. He seemed to just ease through life with a shark tongue and an obnoxious sense of humor, coupled with pragmatic words that carried with them some weight. In a fight, he proved unpredictable, whether going hand to hand or in a gun fight. He went for the quick and dirty way out of any engagement, unafraid of going for the low blows or the use of a weapon. With a gun, he was a crackshot..but this was a liability, as he had little reserve of shooting into a crowded street if it meant putting down the perp. And with the territory came the long line of enemies that leapt at every opportunity to put a bullet through his head. It was later on that Shiro would be paired with one Inspector Kaito for a time, before Kaitos extended hospital stay following a fight.
There came a point he ditched his old .38 special and moved up to a heavy Reman 98 Mag-lock, complete with the heavy line of .489 slugs. Technically a military issue revolver, it was allowed to civilians only through a rigorous array of restrictions and required permits. But as the threat levels in New Haven steadily rose with the changing of the tides in the criminal underworld, Shiro found he could afford a little extra in the ways of self defense. Here, he returns fire, shoving back as a flurry of bullets fly his way..pinging off the pavement, brick, and mortar.
Forward: This took incredibly too long, what with all of the little details in the background and the city-scape. Felt it was worthwhile, either way. Especially for a character like Shiro. I tried drawing the streaks of bullets whizzing past Shiro's head, but no matter what I did, it didn't seem to come out well. At least, how I imagined it would. Good to have finally finished a character picture for Shiro.
