The Sky grew dark, I could see in the olive drab horizon. It pulsed and strobed ominously as it stretched over head, carrying low drifting dark clouds heavy with tons of water and ice.

I loved the rain.

There was always something comforting and powerful about experiencing it. However... This wasn't a friendly little drizzle coming my way.
It was over there. I'm fine. I can deal with this. I needed to distract myself.

The trees began their warning dance, their own impending weather warning with a wash of luke warm and cold air blasting down from the sky. It was time for me to go and I waved goodbye to some of my new friends, they shouted and returned my departure before retreating indoors.

In my return home, my beat up sneakers thwipped and carried me back to my new home's porch.. Fetching a tiny house key from my pocket I fumbled and fussed to get it into the lock. I can feel the energy of the storm as it got closer. My fur began to stand a little.

Around me while I worked the key into its slot, the trees were shedding dry and dead branches, birds flocking either to the ground, seeking its safety and  or huddling close to the trunk to huddle through the storm under the protective canopy of the guardian trees.

The doors lock clicked and I was inside in two shakes of a skunks tail. I closed it and leaned against he door, letting out a sigh of relief.

I was in here. The storm is out there. It cant get to me. Its far away.

I could hear the impulses of thunder grow louder. The constant flashes of a severe thunderstorm's rage outside.

It was still far away. It could pass us and not get too close. I would be alright.

Another flash, quickly followed by a house rumbling boom.Windows and various decorations around the home rattled a little in their place. My new home. Pictures on the wall of a smiling family looked back at me. A slight feeling of being in a strangers house.
Another Flash... A moment of silence and then a boom so loud the ground tremored a little.

Okay, that one was close. Too close... Way to close.

I could feel the air somehow start to squeeze me. As if it were trying to choke me while I was still able to breath. My breaths coming in faster and faster, my heart began to race inside of me.
I went into the household further, past the living room and down into the hallway, heading for the bedroom.

Another flash and house rumbling boom quickly followed. I could feel the trembles moving from the floor and into my body. Lightning was definitely coming.

That's when the bedroom door opened. In its doorway stood my cousin, Scotty, he was my new big brother now. It had only been a few weeks since my adoption into his family was finalized and he could see right now, more than any time since I set foot into his home, I needed him now more than ever.

I was too embarrassed to ever admit it. To ashamed that I could be as spooked as I was from something as simple as a strike of lightning.

Lord help me if I break down crying in front of him. That's not me. I cant. I just need to-

He silently stepped forward and took me by my shaking paw, and lead me to our bedroom. "Hey Sam, you look cold." Gathering an old blanket off a trunk, he draped it around me, and sat with me. We sat down on my bed, plain pink and white comforter gave comfort under us while we sat together.

I wasn't that cold, but I did appreciate him letting me save face. "Y-yeah. I'm a little cold."

Another flash, like some terrible explosion outside happened. A loud pop followed it. We were then surrounded by darkness, only the bedrooms window allowed light to spill in. I closed my eyes. Taking a few deep breathes I did my best not to cry.

I was clinging tight to Scotty. The windows flickered brightly giving to my closed eyes red flashes like some one was taking out picture.. Another house shaking boom following.

My cheeks were wet.

Oh no, I had started to cry. I tried to hold back those tears, but the avalanche has started and it is too late for the pebbles to vote.

I couldn't stop shaking. Each flash restarting those intense emotions of wanting to run away and hide someplace.

"Very cold." my voice was weak and crackled. I could barely talk.

Scottys arms gently held me, and in that moment, I felt a calming and warmth wash through me.
My breaths became calm. Suddenly all the stress and fear just drained away.

My big brother was holding me. His stoic face reassuring me that while he was here, holding me. I would be safe. In his home, he would watch over me when I needed him.
I am safe. I am okay. I will be alright. I am blessed to have a big brother like Scotty.

Note: While it was inspired by another story I had told some friends, I felt this new story would be more fitting to give more cannon to Sam and Scotty's story together and tying in her adoption into his family as well as a little look into Astraphobia as I experience it.

I'm not a great writer but I wanted to give a little more than just three pics shown at various stages of their creation and some bland information about it.  I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to get it done before posting, but I hope it gives some one a smile today. Thank you for reading. <3

You say you're not a great writer, as you write something quite well. Rather emotional and touching, this is.

Thank you, I tend to meet up with a editor who can turn my mess of ideas into something legible.

The downside is I approach stories like a roleplayer which leave some text open ended like I'm expecting some one to respond, rather than write with an outcome in mind. Bad writing habits I wanna break.

Also my grammars atrocious. XD But I try to give something fun if people can enjoy just my verbose meanderings. Thank you for the endorphin squirts. <3

Still, it turned out nice either way. It's also funny how you said "endorphin squirts". *Lightly chuckles*
