Ah, Kung Fu was what I wanted to learn, too...

I have a friend who did it, and he was an excellent resource for information and background on it. I've only got Karate to fall back on for anything martial arts related. There are a lot of dojos of different styles out there that are open. Even in some of the most desolate of places. Go search around if you're wanting to learn.

I know where they teach it in the city near me, and also know, it's one of the most effective - that, maybe combined with Krav Maga.
I might take them up someday, but gotta get checked by a sports doctor first.

It depends on what you want to use it for. Krav is very situational. :/

It might come in handy in case I move to a gun-loving country.
There was a guy on here that threatened furries at conventions for example. So you can never know. Kung Fu has no chance against guns. Krav Maga gives at least a shot. (Bad pun.)

...Why not have a gun if you move to a place that allows them? A little training, some range time and giving it care would vastly outweigh the time, money and energy it takes to become decent with a martial art.

Sure, in 5-10 years I could even have one, after becoming a citizen.

However, Kung Fu and Krav Maga both teach how to handle a situation. Self-defense starts with avoiding a fight, so it's not just a sport.
But they are also fun.

Ah, my bad. You're coming to the US. I sometimes forget about the obscenely lengthy naturalization processes. If you're coming from a place that's developed and keeps good records it shouldn't take more than 6 years. Many places teach situational awareness in most firearms handling classes too. But honestly, its learning to pay attention to whats around you and making better decision where you choose to go. The classes I had focused on de-escalation and how "use of force" affects you in the long run before they taught you how to shoot. Using Verbal judo, etc.

Well, it was a plan and possibility ~ for one thing, because furry friends there; another is the great online self-employment possibility (here you have to pay at least $ 400 flat, even if a personal company makes nothing a month); but the #1 motivation would be love, buuut I'm unlucky with that.

I'm perhaps deadly-levels of conscious about my surrounding; perfectly reading everyday people; instantly knowing the bad guys; and knowing how to handle them IRL ~ I guess I can say I naturally have that one skill that can't be taught. But yeah, in case of 'action' MA is a must! - Should it ever occur...

Go work as a security guard. Literally be paid to be a witness to things and write a report every day. Simple stuff.Don't have to intervene on anything unless you've gone out of your way to get Executive/HV asset protection/L4 work.
