Chapter III
Meeting Of The Guardians
(An Hour Later In The Council Room Chambers, Mid Afternoon.)
In the council chamber today was buzzing with life and chit chat as Guardian’s from across the Dragon Realms we’re all talking with each other about stories of how they meet each other, fought together in the past wars, or how drunk they got at parties, some Guardians stayed at their small desks and waited for the meeting to begin, while other Guardians laid their heads on their desks and fell asleep.
Sebastian and Fang walked into the chamber room just now and saw that most Guardians were sitting in the back and not the front for some odd reason, with a huff Sebastian and Fang walked down to the first and front row of desks that very few Guardians were sitting at together. Sebastian spotted a free desk in the middle and singled his friend Fang toward the middle desk and nodded towards it, the poison Guardian saw and nodded back to Sebastian. As the two dragons went behind the desk and sat down the doors behind the main podium on the small stage opened wide as five carts were being rolled out by the moles and being rolled down to the left and right side of the small stage before stopping as the moles stood to the side of the carts. Sebastian tried to get a real and good look at what was underneath the white sheets that were covering the large stack of something underneath, but his old eyes couldn’t pick out anything and he just huffed and gave up soon after.
Sebastian looked up to the stage and podium and saw the other Guardians walk out onto the small stage and saw the very dragon he hated and detested the most, Cyril the new Leader of the Guardians. The ice Guardian walked up to the podium and stopped as he stood up and waited for the others to do the same. Ignitus walked up to the ice dragon’s left side and sat down as he folded in his large wings into his sides and his tail moved swiftly behind him, then Terrador walked up to the blue drake’s right side and stood up as his friend and leader was doing, and finally Volteer walked over to the green Guardian’s right side and sat down as well and did the same as Ignitus. All the Guardian dragons in the chamber room stopped their talking and went back to sit on at their assigned desks and then sat down and looked up to the stage and podium that the Leader of the Guardians was at. With every Guardian sitting and being very quiet as they paid close attention to their new Leader, Cyril sighed softly to himself and shook his head as he lowered his wings into his sides and his tail swayed slowly behind him. He looked back up this time and smiled at every Guardian in the chamber room right now.
“Thank you all for coming, both dragons and dragonesses from all over the realms to this… surprise meeting of the Guardians today. We haven’t had this sort of meeting since the old days when our former predecessors had one over a 1000 years ago, during a time in which was both dark and tragic for the Dragon realms, but this meeting isn’t to reflect on the past but rather the forward and the future.” Cyril said out loud to every Guardian within the chamber room.
“Some of you are probably wondering right now, where are Spyro and Cynder? The two heroes who defeated and sealed away Malefor thus saving the realms and the world. So, let me explain…” Cyril to tried to finish saying to everyone before he was rudely interrupted by Sebastian.
Sebastian grinned wickedly, “And just where are Spyro and Cynder exactly today huh, Leader? Where are the so-called heroes? Shouldn’t they be here for such an important occasion?”
The Guardians within the room whispered to one and another as they too agreed with Sebastian’s words, the black dragon was about to chime in before he was cut off by Terrador’s loud and deep voice, “Quiet everyone, please. Guardian Sebastian, if you had waited for our Leader to finish explaining himself just why Spyro and Cynder aren’t here today. Then you and the other Guardians would know why that is, so I suggest you keep that silver tongue of yours in check and keep your mouth shut, Guardian Sebastian. Do you understand, Guardian Sebastian?”
Sebastian nodded as he waved his right paw, “That I do, Guardian Terrador.”
Terrador frowned as he looked back at Cyril nodded towards him in understanding which the ice dragon returned one of his own before looking toward Sebastian and giving him the hard glare of the eyes for a quick second before looking back to everyone within the chamber room.
“Any way, the reason Spyro and Cynder aren’t here for this important meeting is rather simple. As some of you know, there will be party tonight at Warfang’s city hall for all the Guardians here today, which is why I thought it would be the perfect place to see and ask them questions there instead of here. After all parties are meant to be fun, relaxing, and free of a stressful working day, which is why Spyro and Cynder will be there instead of the meeting today. So, every Guardian in this room can relax, have fun, spend time with family and friends, and ask Spyro and Cynder questions in a relaxing and stress-free environment. Had Spyro and Cynder been here at the meeting today getting asked question after question, then this meeting would have gone on longer and every Guardian being dead tired afterwards. Which is why Spyro and Cynder will be at the party answering all your curious and interesting questions.” Cyril spoke out truthfully to every Guardian within the whole room.
“Any who, this meeting is here to decide the forward, the tomorrow, and the future of us Guardians. Many of the previous Guardians who stood with us in the past, have been killed through warfare, are missing in action and have yet to be found, simply retired, or left due to the hard stress of war or innocent blood being shred in battle. The previous Guardians who were killed or are missing in action were close friends, comrades, campions, lovers, mates, life-mates, and family. All Guardians within this chamber room today lost have many as well, even us four Guardians standing on or sitting on stage and behind this podium have lost two great comrades and some of the greatest friends a dragon like us four could ever ask for. Zephyr the deceased Guardian of Wind was killed through warfare and Anahita, the deceased Guardian of Water was also killed through warfare, but as I said before many of us Guardians within this room have lost many and still have friends, family, or lovers still missing and have yet to be found.” Cyril said honestly.
“Which is why I called upon this meeting in the first place, we are to talk about the vacant sites left behind by the pervious Guardians and to decide who will replace them.” Cyril said truthful as the chamber room as meet with hushed whispers right now.
Cyril looked towards the moles who were standing behind covered filled carts and nodded to them. The mole workers nodded back and grabbed the white sheets and pulled it down as the whole room lite up joy and curious stares. There on the five carts were tall stacks of scrolls that were cleaned up and shining in the light’s room and everybody wondered what was written on them. Cyril looked around the whole room and spotted the other Guardians glazes and looks toward the stacked scrolls right before they all stopped and looked up back at their Leader standing behind the podium.
“As every Guardian can see on the carts here, these scrolls hold the last wills and testaments from the previous Guardians who have sadly been killed or are still missing in action and have yet found to be found. Written on these scrolls are…” Cyril tried to finish saying as Sebastian once again rudely interrupted the Guardian Leader.
“Last wills and testaments, Guardian Cyril? Do you have any idea how controversial this move is huh?”
Cyril nodded, “I’m aware of how controversial this move of mine is, Guardian Sebastian. Usually, the family or a very close friend of a deceased Guardian would read the last will or testament from these scrolls then later tell the Leader or second in command of the Guardians of the deceased Guardians last will and words of who they would like to replace or succeed them with their student and candidate’s. It’s been that way for a very long time now, however now the families and friends of these deceased or missing Guardians have given me and my second in command Terrador their blessings and words to allow us to have us read or take the scrolls. Do you want anything else, Guardian Sebastian?”
Sebastian shook his shook, “No, I don’t need anything Leader.”
Cyril nodded back before looking back to the others, “Now, these scrolls will be picked up by the led Guardian who oversee their Temple district within the Dragon Realms. Each led Guardian who grabs a scroll can read it here on stage today or you can take the scroll back to your Temple district and read it there. Once your done with the scrolls you must return them back here to the city Temple or back to the families or friends of the deceased Guardians. You led Guardian’s must fill the vacant sits before the end of the year. This is your deadline.”
Sebastian didn’t like this deadline part one bit, “You’ve got to be fucking kidding?! A deadline of all things, Guardian Cyril! Oh, I don’t like this one…”
Ignitus cut off Sebastian right then and there and gave the black dragon his own hard glare of the eyes right now, “Now that is enough, Guardian Sebastian! Any more rudely interruptions coming from you again and your out of here! Am I clear, Guardian Sebastian?!”
Sebastian let out a small growl escape from his throat as a smirk appeared on his face, “Loud and clear, Guardian Ignitus.”
Ignitus nodded, “Glad to hear it, Guardian Sebastian.” Ignitus looked over to his mate and his two friends and saw them looking at him with odd and weird looks right now, “What? Did I do something wrong?”
They shook their heads as they turned their heads forwards once again as Ignitus did the same as well as Cyril spoke out once again, “Any way, before Guardian Sebastian’s rude interruption. Are there any objections to these scrolls or deadline, if so, you may speak out freely and clearly. Now’s the time to do so.”
No Guardian spoke or got up to voice their opinion or thoughts on the matter right now, which meant nobody had a problem with the scrolls or deadline. To which brought a sigh of relief to Cyril and the other Guardians on stage as the ice Guardian spoke out once more, “Seeing how there are no objections to the scrolls or deadline. We can move on.”
Cyril placed his right paw onto the podium and left it as he talked and looked out to the Guardians within the chamber, “Now before the led Guardians come up here and grab the scrolls, I have two scrolls right here on the podium with me that are the last wills and testaments of Zephyr, the former Guardian of Wind and Anahita, the former Guardian of Water which I will read out to all of you. After that is over, I will tell you all about our students or candidates who will replace us once we decide to retire. Now I will begin reading the scrolls.”
Cyril grabbed the scroll on the left side of the podium and opened it, and then laid the scroll on the podium and left it there so he could read it out loud, “The scroll I’m reading is the last will and testament of Zephyr, former Guardian of Wind. So, here are his last words and will. “I Zephyr, Guardian of Wind. Select my student and beloved friend, Notus the wind dragon to replace me as the new Guardian of Wind. I know my student can be a little problematic and rather picky to a small degree, but I know deep down in my heart and soul that he is the best choice to replace me. He will be bringing a lot of laughs and jokes to the Guardians, but he still is best choice to replace me.” That is the last and final words and will from Zephyr. I will read Anahita’s will and testament next.”
Cyril rolled up Zephyr’s scroll and pushed it off to the left side of the podium, then he grabbed Anahita’s scroll and unrolled it and laid it down on the podium and started to read it out loud now, “This last scroll that I’m reading is the last will and testament of Anahita, the former Guardian of Water. So, here are the last words and will of Anahita. “I Anahita, Guardian of Water. Would have selected my student, Naida the water dragoness to be my replacement, however though my student recently lost her eyesight completely and is blind for life. So, I’ve decided to select my candidate and youngest beloved little sister, Nerissa the water dragoness to replace me as the Guardian of Water. I know my little sister can do the job and make it her own in time, she can be a little mouthy and sarcastic sometimes, but its her charm as well. I know my sister can do the job and she’ll probably do it better than I ever could. Which is why I choose my sister, Nerissa to replace me as the Guardian of Water. I know I’ve made the right choice, love Anahita.” That is the last and final words and will from Anahita, the former Guardian of Water.”
Cyril then rolled up Anahita’s scroll and then placed it gentle on the right side of the podium and left it there as he starred out to every Guardian in the chamber room, “Now, I will announce my and the three Guardians standing up here with me, our students and candidate to replace us once we retire. For I, the Leader of the Guardians and Guardian of Ice will have my student who was trained by me and my life-mate, Ignitus, I have selected my student, Winter the ice dragon to replace me as the Guardian of Ice. As for Ignitus’s replacement, he would have selected his student, Pyra the fire dragon to be his replacement as the next Guardian of Fire, however though Pyra has been missing for a long time and has yet to be found. So, Ignitus has decided to select his candidate and younger brother, Ignite to be the next Guardian of Fire.”
Cyril looked across the chamber room and heard the Guardians whisper amongst themselves about Ignitus’s younger brother begin the replacement for the fire Guardian standing sitting on stage right now. Cyril sighed to himself as he rubbed his eyes with left paw and stopped, he what he was doing and went back to speaking out some more.
“For Terrador, the second in command and Guardian of Earth has selected his student, Rocker the earth dragon to take his place as the next Guardian of Earth. And finally, Volteer, the Guardian of Electricity has selected his student, Alektra the electricity dragoness to be the next one to replace Volteer as the next Guardian of Electricity. That is all I have to say on the matter, and now you led Guardians can come up here and grab the scrolls you need.” Cyril said lastly to everyone in the chamber room.
As the led Guardians got up on all fours and started walking to get the scrolls, Cyril sighed tiredly to himself as he turned around and looked to his mate and friends as they smiled at him right now.
“I think that went rather… well don’t you think.” Cyril asked tiredly.
Terrador and Volteer chuckled and nodded, while Ignitus smiled lovingly at his life-mate right now.
“I think you did rather well, love. You did good.” Ignitus said lovingly.
Cyril smiled tiredly, “Thanks, everyone. I don’t know about you all, but I sure as hell could use a drink right about now.”
The four Guardian dragons laughed amongst themselves as the rest of the Guardians behind them were grabbing and getting their scrolls from the carts in front of the stable. The four Guardians on stage stopped their laughing and huffed softly to themselves.
“So, I guess we stay here and help the others right?” Volteer asked.
Cyril nodded, “I’m afraid so, Volteer. It’ll probably take some time to finish, but it’s the least we four can do to help them.”
“Indeed. Although, I’m pretty sure every Guardian within this room is more excited for the party happening tonight than anything else. Really.” Terrador said in his low voice.
Ignitus nodded to the earth drake’s words, “I think so too.” Ignitus looked back over his left shoulder and saw that most of the led Guardians were taking the scrolls back to their small desks while others were standing in line to get on stage and get their turn to speak behind the podium. Ignitus looked forward and sighed softly to himself just now as his tail swayed behind him.
“I don’t know about you three, but once this meeting is finally over with. I’m going to mine and Cyril’s room to rest and sleep for the entire day.”
Cyril, Terrador, and Volteer looked at the fire dragon and smiled at him as they chuckled at Ignitus’s words as the ice Guardian spoke out, “Now that my dear lovely and sexy red dragon. Sounds like a great plan, I think I will join you once this meeting is over of course.”
Ignitus grinned as his red tail swished behind him, “Sounds good to me, love.”
With that the four Guardians on stage turned around and walked off stage, with Cyril and Ignitus going to the left as Terrador and Volteer went right. They stayed on side lines of the stage and watched as every led Guardian walk up onto the stage behind the podium with the scrolls and then placed them on the podium wood surface and started reading out the words and last wills from the previous Guardians. With each led Guardian going one by one and taking their time with it.
Cyril sighed tiredly to himself as his own tail swished behind him, “It’s going to be a very long day indeed.”
