Late this coming year of 2023 will make it 50 years after the 1973 OPEC oil embargo ushered in the U.S. nationwide 55 mph speed limit.
In the 1st pic is how I picture then President Richard Nixon in the Furry Universe.
During the year 1974, President Nixon had a function miles away from Washington D.C. to attend.
On a radio report, it was announced that Nixon and those in his entourage were going to take the train to save fuel, which sounded like a good publicity gesture.
Before their trip, it was then announced that the presidential entourage was going to fly aboard Air Force One. They said that coupling the presidential railroad car to the train would cause the locomotive to burn more fuel.

In 1974, I heard a radio report that the oil shortage caused a bicycle tire shortage in Vietnam. There were Vietnamese people wrapping old rags tightly around bicycle rims to improvise for tires.

I've heard a variety of peanut gallery comments back in those days, such as;
" In ten years, the world population will deplete all the oil on the planet.

Being that was said in 1974, that would have put the world back into the horse and buggy age in 1984.

This next one said about car racing was a real guilt trip;
" Because of gasoline wasted on NASCAR racing, there will come the day there won't be any gasoline left to run an ambulance to take sick and injured people to the hospital.

Another one was;
" They need to make V8 motors a thing of the past. In fact, even forget 6 cylinder and 4 cylinder motors. They need to build cars with 2 cylinder and 3 cylinder motors.

A real peanut gallery statement I once heard was;
" Just think of the gasoline we could save if they outlawed private owned automobiles and went to mass transit.

This is one I don't know if it's true or not;
" It takes 8 quarts of oil to manufacture one automobile tire.

Of course, the nationwide 55 mph speed limit was not popular with a lot of folks, as is depicted in the 2nd pic. There were songs back then like;

Sammy Hagar - I Can't Drive 55

C.W. McCall - Convoy

East Bound And Down - Jerry Reed

And of course there were movies such as Smokey and the Bandit.

The 3rd pic is the highway scene alone...Just imagine driving down this stretch of highway not going any faster than 55 mph.

Thank you. And many thanks for the fave.

It would be very monotonous driving that stretch of highway at 55 mph for sure.

My pleasure and definitely...but I think that while one is going down that infinite road, with good music one can be entertained!^^

Those politicians are still at it with the "fossil fuels" complaint, but this time they're egged on by the environmental extremists and "climate change" advocates to do so for their purposes.
Like take this video made by John Stossel I just discovered http://youtu.be/NLkfpjJoNkA
And this video from PragerU http://youtu.be/Wtc_L0QloRg
And that one statement about "outlawing privately owned automobiles" made me think of the movie Firebird 2015 A.D., where a handful of private automobile owners strive to fight a corrupt government http://youtu.be/aOaxw9KYFcc
So far the politicians and their extremist allies have been wrong, and I'm sure they'll still be wrong for years to come.
