Most of you know I've been increasingly hating on my art the last couple of years or so. It's finally taken a toll.
On days when I neither upload nor intend to upload, I feel free. It's good knowing I don't have to draw anything. But, when the inevitable guilt comes and I feel I must offer up SOMETHING to my watchers, my heart fills with dread. There is no joy to be found in drawing anymore (and hasn't bee since around February 2020 or so).
Even so, I managed an ACO of Mimi today.
I wasn't sure how I wanted to pose her, so I just drew the character flirting (readying herself for Gene, I'm sure).
I changed my mind about the placement of her arms; drew, then re-centered her body a bit. I figured, as I've done before, I'll make a series of sketches and redraw the one I like most. As it turned out, I didn't want to draw past this one pose ...and I didn't want to redraw it. Despite this, I had to upload something, but I didn't want to continue drawing, and the practice sketch was a mess (I drew it with a very black pencil rather than my Zephyr, so all the lines I'd erased were yet visible).
So, I opened my Seashore app and removed the errant lines and pencil dust. What you see here is the result. And what you see HERE is the original card: https://sta.sh/04mfw9g0h6v
For so additional interest, I placed the ruined ACO on one of my antique books, in this case a hardened, leather copy of,
Spiritual Treasury
for the Children of God
Consisting of A meditation for Each Evening in the Year
My copy is the second of two volumes, and was printed in 1811 (211 years ago!). Reading it is a bit interesting. It was printed back when lower-case Ss looked like lower-case Fs, and when certain marks of punctuation had spaces between they and the statements they emphasize.
Anyway, I opened the book (which has pencil marks in it ...from a /now/ very valuable square-core pencil I'm sure, but I digress) to a random page and read,
"I provoked God to anger and he has left me; I have so hardened my heart that I cannot repent. O, eternity ! eternity ! How shall I grapple with the misery I must meet in eternity!"
Well... that's encouraging, given I've accepted Christ yet remain FAR from perfect (you guys just can't know ...I confess, I've cursed God before, in moments of supreme rage).
I read on (skipping a bit),
"...but O, the love of our Lord ! He reminds us, 1st, Though backsliden, yet he owns us as children, O Father, thy lover ever lives, though folly is in our ways. 2d. He calls in love, 'return'" may love cause us to take shame, fall down in sorrow and cry for mercy. For, 3d. He promises. 'I will heal your backslidings:' I will fully and freely pardon them all, though ever so numerous, heinous or aggravating, as though they had never been committed. Backsliding sinner ! believe and rejoice: see the effects of this love in the next meditation : O Lord, my God, lighten mine eyes lest I sleep the sleep of death, Psalm xiii S."
There's hope for me (and I'm sure many of us) then. :3
Pencil...
The featured pencil is the 'Mistleto' by Empire Pencil Co.
No, I didn't mistype, it's spelled on the pencil as I've written above. Disregarding the pencils paint in Christmas colors, I had to look into the word to make sure its name was indeed referring to the mistletoe plant (as opposed to something else, such as a place name).
"A parasitic evergreen plant of Europe ( Viscum album), bearing a glutinous fruit. When found upon the oak, where it is rare, it was an object of superstitious regard among the Druids. A bird lime is prepared from its fruit. [Written also misletoe, misseltoe, and MISTLETO.]"
Ever seen the Asterix comic series? Taking place in ancient Gaul which has been conquered by the Roman except one village, and one character is a druid who uses mistletoe in his magic potions.

Bird lime (or birdlime) = "a sticky substance spread on to twigs to trap small birds."
O.O! The mind boggles at the reasons for doing this but since it was used mostly in England during Victorian times I might venture a guess it was trapping them for food! Only a guess though without more research. But WOW! Learn something new every day!
I'm not sure but I think you featured the 'Mistleto' pencil before but that's ok. It's festive and fits in with the season. :) Hope you're feeling a little better these days but don't feel alone in your annoyance of your art or your lack of creativity / drive. This last year has been a nasty one and a lot of creative people are feeling exactly the way you (and me sometimes) are. If it means anything I love your little sketches and especially your comics and save them whenever I can. :)

I've a pawful more Christmas pencils, including one I absolutely must feature (because I like it) and one that's not actually Christmas but can be used to tell a bad Christmas joke (which also grants it priority status lol)

I remember visiting a church and a woman told me of finding a mother and baby rabbits in a nest in her back yard. The neighborhood children also found them and ended up picking up the baby rabbits and cuddling them. The mother rabbit would later dig a new nest in a less accessible place.
