GIFT ART: Charlie and CEC
Well, it's December---time for some Christmas-themed pencils with art (unfortunately) attached!

Anyway...

Seems the wolves are thinking about Christmas. Let's see what's on their minds...

WOLFMOM (sweetly): "Lupe, I need you to go out back and cut down a tree for Christmas"

LUPE (EDITED): "Can't we just buy one from the 7-Eleven [like we used to]?"

WOLFMOM (matter-of-fact): "With what money, dear? We have you to cut a tree"

LUPE (sighful): "[sigh] Why do we need a tree, anyway?"

WOLMOM: "For the little ones"

MAE (echoing bumptiously): "Yeah, for the little ones!"

WOLFMOM (gingerly; to Lupe): "I know life doesn't seem fair right now, but let's do the best we can with what we have, ok?"

LUPE (sobbing): "I miss him, Mom"

WOLFMOM: "...I know"

Poor Lupe, he's not yet in the Christmas spirit. It's not entirely his fault---Lupe misses the wolf dad. Being the eldest, Lupe remembers what it was like having a dad around. He remembers, too, when his family could afford things like Christmas trees.
Lupe really doesn't want to be 'the man of the trailer'; Lupe's both resentful and confused by it---sometimes he blames himself for the situation; sometimes he blames his dad; sometimes he blames his mom.

The wolf mom is understanding if not a little harsh with Lupe---she's wanting to be both a mother and a father for him (and isn't sure how to).

As a disclaimer (esp. for that one watcher---he knows who he is), I myself do not have daddy issues ...and if I did, I wouldn't want to discuss them (so please don't DM me about it). :3

HYPOTHETICALWATCHER: "As for you, Chippy, don't even try to add depth to these stupid toon characters!
Additionally, you've been on a quickie fixation lately---get back to ACO!
Your ACO art was bad, but unlike these 'quickies', you at least you spent more than five minutes on it"

:(

ACO has been triggering my anxiety lately. I have no explanation for it, but I've become oddly perfectionistic with ACO---much more so than one with my (extreme dearth of) skill should be.
Yes, quickie art is intentionally unpolished, but I don't make it because I'm lazy: I could easily say to hell with art entirely.

HYPOTHETICALWATCHER: "Triggering your anxiety? Man up, bruh ...And don't stop drawing, Chippy. Newbie artists yet relying on Christopher Hart tutorials need your art to feel better about their own shortcomings (ie, 'Mine's still better than Chippy's---and he's been drawing for years!'). They at least have potential and a reason to keep plugging---don't discourage them!"

:(

HYPOTHETICALWATCHER: "Pathetic"

Pencil...

The featured pencil is unbranded, but has metallic-red Christmas trees and snowflakes on it. :3

Also you seem to be worried about divorce debates... Yes, some people can get set off by that topic...

I felt a disclaimer was warranted. It's necessary to mention it here, though---I'm sure some have wondered about Mr. Wolf.

Ok, no one cares, but whatever. :3

Ouch. The feels hit you right here.

No child should ever have to grow up early and take on the stress and hassle; basically losing their childhood. It makes it all the more heartbreaking when you realize that Lupe is the only child that has to bear the memory... the heartbreak. The other children (especially Mae) have no idea what Lupe and big momma are dealing with. That can be a good thing or a bad thing.

It's nice when you add this type of dynamic to side characters such as the wolf family. It adds more humanization to the characters and more dimension to otherwise background characters.

Thx, I'm glad you like. :3

I wanted to touch on the subject only briefly and with care---didn't get into any reasons why Mr and Mrs aren't together anymore; didn't want to cast any stones, either. :3

It's hard, but Lupe will endure. :3

I'm in a sorta similar situation. Didn't have a father growing up per say. He was there, but really didn't want to be. Actually told my mother I wasn't his when he saw the baby photos... until HIS mother saw the similarities. There was no divorce as there was no marriage to begin was and the last I heard from him... he bounced out of the last few child support payments and that was it. But that's okay, I'm happy at how I turned out.

But enough with the past. We are here to celebrate the present and the wonderful job you did with the picture and the story. Now we just need to dive into more of Mubba. I'm happy you are spending time with your OCs and the world they live in.

My parents were never married; my father also denied I was his. I've a half brother somewhere (though I can't say I care to find him---no animosity, just no reason to).

Again, i'm glad you like. Re-reading it just now though, I realize I could have made this comic MUCH better with one small addition.

LUPE: "Can't we just buy one from the 7-Eleven [like we used to]?"

The comics certainly allow more creativity than ACO.

That's why I would love if you continued with the comics. Even if it ends up taking a backseat to the ACOs that you want to do. You have some wonderful characters and the story of them, and the world, gets better and more open as we it moves along.

You're fine, Foxy.

Some edits are easier than others. I'm gonna let this one go (this comic is in scraps everywhere else, anyway).

Unfortunately, I can relate with Lupe. My dad moved away 4 years ago now. And I've never been the same person since. And I haven't felt like celebrating the holidays. My yearly holiday traditions are gone, and celebrating without the presence of my dad just doesn't feel right. All the holidays have done is just stress me out. So I don't even bother. Hopefully maybe one day that'll change.

Well that and the pencils : CHRISTMAS PENCIL with GREEN ERASER!! :D

I like this pencil, too, but I'm gonna try not to show too many 'cheap' ones like it. That said, the Christmas pencils I amassed this year are quantity over quality---I didn't find too many good ones. Still, I have a few gems, and will be scattering them about here and there. :3

"Once upon a time there was a far away land COVERED in paper. All KINDS of paper. But yet the people were sad for they had nothing with which to mark ON the paper. And so it might have remained if not for the sudden appearance of CHIPPIE PENCIL SEED  who danced into Papervillie (yes that was it's name) and gave everyone a BRAND NEW SHARPENED PENCIL WITH AN EXTRA ERASER! 'HORRAY' cried the people 'NOW WE CAN MARK OUR PAPER IN ALL KINDS OF WONDERIOUS WAYS!!!' and so they did and everyone loved happily ever after!
The End"   :D

You're line about scattering pencils here and there inspired this. :D

Divorce has always been a difficult topic, but why it has to be such is beyond me. I mean, I can relate to and understand how much it impacts the people involved and those around them, but relationships crashing is just a part of life, it should not be something that gets people angry and triggered. They can get triggered if they find the reason for the divorce to be appalling or objectionable, such as is the case for cheating or even worse physical abuse, but divorce in of itself should not be such a heated and hot topic as it is.
IceAgeChippies
3 years, 1 month ago
I think what you're really saying is divorce is common ...and it is ...but so is cancer, murder and hate. None of those things are good, and all can (by degrees) destroy a person/one's family.

My gallery is GENERALLY a safe-space: I don't tend to show things that could reasonably upset most people, hence I felt a disclaimer/warning would be appreciated (esp. given the art's general rating; I don't want to trip or fool anyone).
FantasiIFrittFall
3 years, 1 month ago
I understand the disclaimer. But I find it very interesting how such a topic can be so conflicting. Really ruins the fun of it many times when comment sections many times are solely focused on discussing politics that often have very little to do with the actual artwork.

I do not really see how cancer, murder, and hate can be compared to divorce. And their in a very different league than what divorce is, both in terms of how it is looked at, and how it is often handled by society.
IceAgeChippies
3 years, 1 month ago
I guess some relate to the characters. Some are ok with that (may even find comfort in it), while others want to avoid the topic entirely. Both are valid.

I suppose so. :3
