This is the end, my friend, this is the end but I'll be back again when the time is right, Dr. Light.
Dr. Wily is one of those villains that is etched into my mind as one of the quintessential pillars of villainy. It is for that very sake that I ranked him first place among an entire round up of fellow mad scientists, but what exactly is it that makes him so great to me? How does a moustache twirling foil like Albert Wily out rank so many? In this countdown alone, he has bested Pennywise, an eldritch horror from beyond that has existed since time immemorial who feeds off the fear of mortal beings. He's also best Ganondorf, a dark god given human flesh, locked in a perpetual cycle of reincarnation to wage war against the light. How does what is essentially nothing more then a crusty old man with tinker toys best the likes of these? Because despite being just a man he is just as inevitable as the two of them, if not more so! Dr. Wily is a unending source of evil who single-handedly destroyed utopia via a potent virus which carries his own DNA, simply so that he could rip away Dr. Light's hope of a better future a century after both of their deaths! Wily is the man who is too angry to die! He is an immortal being of his own making. He didn't need fancy godling-powers or Lovecraftian origins and he wasn't bested by a twink in a green skirt or a bunch of kids fondling each other in the sewers (IT'S IN THE BOOK!) He did it all and he did it out of nothing more than spite! What an inspiration~
