Blown Power Transformer by moyomongoose

Friday, August 19th, 1960
Around noon of the next day after the evening Clarence Coyote had left in the time machine to return to his rightful time in 2018.

At the home of Rufus and Laura Opossum, the family had recently sat down to have lunch when the power transformer blew that services electricity to their home.
While eating lunch, they heard a loud buzz as an arc shot out of the transformer to the ground, then followed by a loud bang as the transformer blew up. They also noticed that the lights in the house trailer went out, the radio stopped playing, the refrigerator stopped running, and a couple of window fans they had going had stopped running.
Oldest daughter Lisa, and younger son Lester were looking out of the front window at the time it happened and said they saw the bright blue arc shoot across the front yard.
At the moment the power quit, the following song was playing on their radio:
1956 HITS ARCHIVE: Whatever Will Be Will Be (Que Sera Sera) - Doris Day

When the family stepped out to see what happened, they noticed the burnt spot where the arc had struck the ground.
Mama Laura gasped and said, "Thank God, Dora and Sheila were not still there playing".
Youngest daughters Dora and Sheila had been playing in that same spot where the arc struck before the family came inside to have lunch.
"We can also be thankful it didn't blow an hour sooner than it did", Rufus added.

Along that rural part of Highway 285 in New Mexico, phone service didn't extend out that far where the opossum family's home is. Thus, Rufus had to drive to Cline's Corners to call the power company about the transformer. At Cline's Corners, the owner of a gas station knows Rufus and Laura quite well, and lets them use the phone when they need to.

That evening, a power company crew came out and replaced the transformer. One of the members of the power company crew is a long time acquaintance to the opossum family...That is Anthony Lynx, from the community of Duran there in New Mexico.  Anthony and Victoria Lynx's cubs, Ryan and Janice go to the same elementary school with Rufus and Laura Opossum's cubs; Vince, Lester, Dora and Sheila (Lisa is already in middle school).

During a conversation that evening, Rufus Opossum told Anthony Lynx, "We sure were lucky. Dora and Sheila had been playing where that arc hit a while before the transformer blew up".
"It's a good thing we were all inside having lunch when it happened", Laura added.
Anthony Lynx mentioned, "We can all be grateful they weren't there. There's enough voltage in those lines it would have turned both of them into toast".

All and all though, everything turned out well.

When I was a teenager, I actually witnessed a power transformer do that. It was pretty scary.

Try being in a building when it happens... in the building.

In fact very little did happen, just a bang and no lights.

I guess in a building, you might be safe from being hit by the arc that shoots out of the transformer.

Didn't even see it. The whole building had a bad roof that was leaking and wore they were in the middle of restoring it.,

That they were. The family members were really thankful that transformer didn't blow until everyone was inside having lunch.

Yuuuuuuuup.

And is Clarence Coyote coming back anytime soon.  Oo.

I had wanted to steal his machi- I mean ask him if he'd take me to the future/his present.

Also, seeing a power transformer blow.   Dam.   Hopefully you weren't scared too long.

Clarence won't be coming back to 1960.

As for seeing a transformer blow, the arc went past my bedroom window two times one morning just before I got out of bed. Then the transformer on the pole blew up.

Clarence's present is in this present day and time.

As far as stealing the time machine to go to the future, you have my permission to use it in a story.

Your character, fursona, etc would have to sneak into the aerospace research center in Roswell, New Mexico, which use to be an Air Force base until it was closed down in the late 1960s.
A Horizons Innovation location there is where the time machine is being kept. Since the machine had been retrieved from the site near Clarence's home where he arrived back to 2018, the makeshift repairs performed on it in 1960 had been replaced with modern day repairs it originally had.

By the way, a technical apprentice had mistakenly left a copy of the operator's manual on the operator's seat between the two control consoles.

The outside button below the door opens and closes the door from outside of the machine.
