WATCHER (asking me for art): "The idea is to mock Jimmy Webb's song "MacArthur Park", where after a rainy day, your characters are mourning a green-iced cake sitting on a park bench, melted down and ruined, saying things like "Poor cake!"  A song meant to be taken seriously even though whoever wrote the lyrics must have been on LSD!"

The song in question (link tested 07/21/2022): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73v1RqRPKGk

I listened to it ...it's fine; very metaphorical, perhaps a bit too much for its own good, but it's far from the most ridiculous or 'out there' song I've heard.

Even so, I like throwing *crumbs to my watchers now and then, so here's a cartoon (somewhat) as described by the watcher (I didn't want to use my main cast for this).

*pun!

The watcher (if I understood them correctly) wanted me to feature a 60s pencil with the cartoon.
Ok... but the song is from the 70s (*isn't it?). Either way, I have 60s-era pencils, but none that I think are appropriate for a comic like this (at least that I can verify the vintage of), so this **mid-century pencil must suffice.

*1968
**hard to date this one

The featured pencil is promoting Grennan Cook Book Cake. I have no idea what this cake is (or if it ever existed)---nor could I find any recipes for it ...which is fitting given these lyrics from the song,

"And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh no!"

Cake.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Columnist Dave Barry once ran a contest for worst pop songs of all time and featured the results in his book "Dave Barry's Book Of Bad Songs", and unsurprisingly MacArthur Park was the winner.  Second was "Yummy Yummy Yummy I Got Love In My Tummy", and three was "Havin' My Baby".  Maybe Jimmy Webb was on PCP when he wrote the song.

"In order to get Chip to draw Friendship Is Magic art, we need him to be exactly the right amount of intoxicated. Drunk enough that he'll do it, but not so much that liver failure sets in. It's a tight margin."

It's fun trying to discover that margin! :D

"I think that's ALL our vodka. How goes it, Chip?"

"You know, Norm Of The North really does have some potential."

"Ah. Too far, he's lost all coherence."

I see 'Laffy Taffy' made the list (and rightfully so), but they missed this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywEaEEnQ-2M

Songs on your list that I like (and will never change my mind on):

1. O-o-h Child – The 5 Stairsteps (back in my Yerf days, I dedicated this song to Ozy (of 'Ozy and Millie') ^^
2. Lady In Red – Chris DeBurgh (I cherish this song) :(
3. Something Happened On The Way To Heaven – Phil Collins (there's a lot of Phil on this list, but I really like the man and his music) :p
4. My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion (great song, and fantastic [albeit melodramatic] movie!) D:
5. Beautiful Soul – Jessie McCartney D:

I didn't agree with every song on the list, but most of them yes-for their titles if nothing else.

BTW, the songs you are most likely to hate are the ones you hear too many times.

I would add, 'hear too many times against my will'.

Some songs I like I can listen to on loop many times over (I have a playlist I usually go to).

Believe it or not, I've been listening to Psalty the Singing Songbook as of late. ^^

Quickie? It took so long to make it! Oh no, noooo! Oh nooooooooooooo!

I got this one from the thumbnail. Good job and such an odd song. It's an easy number one on my bad list and then this one is number two https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPckNfJuxPk

XDXDXD This is so silly and upbeat---how can it be 'bad'? (then again, I'm someone with a penchant for hearts, and had a cherub analog for an OC ...so of course I'd like this song). ^^

A song I despise (thanks mostly to TDC spamming it constantly): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-QvIId_RuQ

I'd never cry over spilled milk, but a rain-on cake just crosses the line... I was going to eat that dammit! :3

Poor cute lil wolfie boy. Looks like he's going to have to head home and ask his mother to make him another cake... all the while the snarky cloud hangs above him drenching him. Yet another thing he'll have to explain to his mother when he gets home lol.

Indeed---it's such a sad, dramatic image we have here before us! D:

Hopefully a happy end will follow. :3

HOLY SHIT SO THIS IS WHERE THE INSPERATION FOR THIS CAME FROM!!! :

https://youtu.be/OXc-OI-OZ6c

Sadly because of copyright issues the scene where Winslow Leach is singing this song EXACTLY like in the vid is blocked...but this song is IT!

The cartoon IS cute as always though. :D

If you have a chance watch "Phantom of the Paradise" it's one of THE BEST weird 70's movies EVER!! Also one of the best adaptations of Faust ever done and with Paul Williams music to boot!! ;D

One of the few times the pencil is eclipsed by the content of the cartoon. Gonna have to find the recipe for that cake too. :D

The Cartoon IS cute as always though. :D

Where do you find this stuff?

Also, this song is more well-known among my watchers than I realized. ^^
