Oh, to be young, when your greatest concerns were homework and making sure to catch your favorite cartoons when they broadcast. The 80s were a fantastic decade to be a kid in, and the cartoons were top notch. He-Man was my all time favorite, which you might be able to guess, and baby Megan never missed an episode. She also had all of those toys and things, too, except the Cringer plush, which I don't think they made. But mom was a whiz with a needle.
A little something to cheer myself up, plus a healthy dash of nostalgia.
Art belongs to the always amazing minettefraise who went above and beyond on this!
I'm glad I read the description of this drawing. If you go to my gallery and view the Kootona vs. human comparison drawing, you'll see something reminiscent of the size of Battle Cat to He-man.
Oh yeah, the toys aren't meant to be in scale with each other or anything. Actually, the only one I even asked for was the Cringer plush, and Minette included the rest as a surprise, so I'm just thrilled they're included!
That's pretty neat. I always did kind of wish they made a Cringer toy. Battle Cat was awesome, too, but since they had separate figures for Prince Adam and He-Man, it seemed only sensible they do the same for his "fearless friend"!

That would have made a lot of sense but, toy manufacturers aren't known for doing what makes sense.
What I was referring to was that, in the cartoon, Battle Cat was a VERY large cat and my Akootona are also very large felines. They stand 5'0" tall at the shoulder and 6'0" tall at the crown of the head.
That would have made a lot of sense but, toy manufacturers aren't known for doing what makes sense.
To be fair, Sailor Moon is pretty good. I had an ex-girlfriend sit me through a good chunk of it, and I probably would have watched it back in the day, if I'd known about it. My ex always insisted in watching it in Japanese, though, so it was kind of a workout to keep up with the subtitles and the action, sometimes.

My sister wateched alot of Rainbow bright and My little pont and we both liked the Carebears and in the early 90's we had Animaniacs and tinytoons

When I was in the 5th grade, the school showed Thundercats on the in-classroom televisions every morning before class started. I suspect it was a way to keep us quiet, 'til the teachers were ready. We almost never got through an entire episode, and I remember only the broadest strokes of the show, but I did enjoy it.

The...'to sell toys' cartoons always have a little warm spot in my heart. They were so goofy, lazily animated in hilarious ways, and I'unno. It's like eating junk food with your eyes. You know it's terrible for you but it tastes good. ;3
Transformers G1, GI Joe, MASK, Thundercats, He-Man...yeah.
This piece is fantastic. Well done, both to your ideas and to Minette for visualizing them. <3

I always thought that He-Man was pretty good, and it stands up pretty well today. Sure, it always had a little moral at the end, and sometimes ones that didn't have any bearing on the story, but I think there's a reason it's still considered a classic today, even besides nostalgia. Or maybe I'm biased. All I know is, they were what I had growing up, and there will always be that little place in my heart that loves them.
And thanks! Most of the credit goes to Minette. I just asked for a cute picture of Megan holding the Cringer plush and she kinda did the rest. But I adore everything about it!

I remember growing up in the early 2000's. There were some pretty good shows on then... Until dad got rid of cable TV because he thought I spent too much time in front of the TV rather than my schoolwork :P
Least now I can watch whatever I want.

When we were very young, my parents only allowed my brother and me to watch an hour of television a day. So we had to be pretty careful about which shows me picked. They never did get cable, either, on the argument they didn't want to pay for commercials. So I read a lot more than I watched television, too.
And gosh, what were the early 2000s even like? I was so busy finishing college, working my first bullshit jobs and dating my second girlfriend that it all whizzed by in a bit of a blur.

Aw, thank you! I'm so glad you like it, and I couldn't agree more! You get some credit for inspiring this, too. I was going back through your gallery on the Other Site after your recent announcement, to make sure I had everything saved between here adn there, and came across your picture of Neill as He-Man. Between that and wanting something cute from Minette, it all kind of clicked in my head and here we are!
And I so want a big ol' Cringer plush to cuddle, even today! Cringer was awesome!

Awww this is to adorable. The 80's were a great time to be a kid. I miss Saturday morning cartoons. He-man was great and so was the Thundercats, Mask, and so on.
*hugs little Megan*
And I love how long her hair is in this picture... I think that is the longest I have ever seen it.

It was a great decade for being a kid in, for sure, and there were so many awesome cartoons!
*Hugs back.* Thank you for being so kind. And yeah, her hair is aaaalmost the right length in this picture. If you look at her ref, you can see she's supposed to have basically ankle-length hair, but it's hard to get people to draw it that long.

I never saw He-man, but I distinctly remember the green tiger always looking like he'd rather be anywhere else before he gets the He-man zaps. I was like, oh, okay, I guess all the Cowardly Lion needed was a thunderstorm? x3
Hah, yeah, Prince Adam and Cringer kinda worked on cartoon logic there. Adam was kind of a klutz, and a bit of a slacker, or at least he had that reputation among those who didn't know his secret. And Cringer kinda lived up to his name by being much more interested in food and naps than fighting, and rather frightened of whatever the threat of the day was. Which, considering it often consisted of an undead sorcerer and his minions - plus an inexhaustible supply of robots - it was hard to blame him. But all Adam had to do was whip out the power sword, say the right words, and they were ready to kick ass and save the day again. Quite why he needed to, when even as Adam, our man was ripped as hell and armed with a big sword, and Cringer was, well, a giant fucking tiger, is probably best not thought too hard about. I still wanna hug 'em both for being adorable, too.
As for the new show, I haven't seen it yet, so I can't comment. If something's not on Netflix or Hulu, I don't have any way of watching it, I'm afraid. I suppose I could always look for bootlegs on YouTube, but I imagine those get swatted down pretty quick.

I was born in 85, so most of my nostalgic cartoons are from the 90's. Tons of options available then, since all the networks were competing with each other for ratings.

I didn't watch a lot of cartoons in the 90s, as by then I'd moved on to things like re-broadcasts of Dr. Who, when I had time to watch television at all. That, and I didn't have cable, because my parents refused to get it, which kinda limited me on what I could watch. But from what I've seen there were some pretty good shows on in that decade, too.

there were, even if you didn't have cable. Some of the most famous cartoons of all time were on regular network television in the 90's, such as Animaniacs, the Batman and Superman animated series, Gargoyles, Transformers Beast Wars, Reboot, Sonic SATAM, Freakazoid, Goof Troop, SWAT Kats, and TONS of others. Plus it was the time when anime was starting to get imported in ernest, granted you had to have cartoon network to see most of them, but there were still a few like Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z that were at least partially aired on regular networks, and once pokemon came out around '96 there was an EXPLOSION in the the "magical pet" genre which included such classics as Digimon and Medabots, and Monster Rancher, which was also one of the early Isekai animes which are SO popular these days.

While I was way more of a Transformers kit, I did have a brief obsession with Masters of the Universe. (I am still a Transformers kit, actually. I can't even display all of my bots at the same time in our current home.)
I particularly enjoyed the recent sequel series on Netflix. I feel like it did a good job of making something very much in the spirit of the classic stories while also being palatable for an adult viewer.
That being said... She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is maybe one of my top ten shows ever~💜
May the Power and Glory of Grayskull forever reign!
This is undeniably adorable! While I was way more of a Transformers kit, I did have a brief obsessi
I never actually watched Transformers. As I mentioned in a few other places, I was only allowed to watch so much television a day when I was a kid, so I stuck to my favorites. But I always thought the toys looked pretty cool, and it's a pretty neat idea!
I haven't seen any of the re-boots except for the new She-Ra series. But I'm certainly curious! And classic She-Ra was pretty awesome! I didn't actually watch it 'til I was grown, but I'd totally have watched it back in the day, too.
Isn't it, though? Minette is a master of cute! I never actually watched Transformers. As I mentione
Love how this looks, and further compounds how I miss morning cartoons on the weekends. I will say, I absolutely loved the reboot of Thundercats about 10-12 years prior, it seemed like it was really going well and then it abruptly just... disappeared. That broke my heart because I loved how the characters were shaping up over time.
Also really makes me want to get some cute art with small Mamabun & Mamafox.

Aw, yeah, Saturday morning cartoons were awesome back when I was a kid. Well, okay, the writing on some might not have been the best, but I loved 'em, and He-Man was (and is) a huge favorite of mine. It's a shame about the new Thundercats, though. I never actually got to see it, so I can't comment, but all too often it seems like it's the best shows that are the ones that always get canned.
That would be lovely. Littlebun cuddling with big Alex, or playing with a young ligercat her own age, would both be fantastic! I know Grace would agree, too.

i remember back being a kid.... kind of.. my memory is horrible. still i remember watching a ton of tv back then. i miss the old days of tv, nowadays everything is just...bleh... these days tv producers just put on anything they think will be popular, like lumberjacks cutting down trees, or people trying to outbid eachother on storage auctions, i could go on but i think you get the idea. i remember quite a few cartoons back then. though im not an 80's guy. also.... ITS A BUN! a cute bun x3
