No matter how far I sank into the ballpit of furry depravity, I was always struggling and fighting the corruption. Around the time of my low point, just as I started trying to claw my way back up the slippery slope, I wrote a new OC: King the Rat.
King lacked the benefits I had of a stable household and loving, disciplinary parents. He was, initially, the typical macrofurry's fantasy of a bratty child up through his teens, having no memories at all of interacting with parents in his formitive years. Just playing with cars and buildings and making a destructive mess at first, then as he got older beginning to make a mess in more unsavory ways...until he saw other giants sadistically murdering the tiny people and decided he couldn't stand for that.
King had a sort of awakening in his late teens and became the defender of the unempowered, protecting them to the death from all manner of wickedness. He was made the monarch of the city at a certain point, having a throne constructed as a huge high rise building in which the other government functions were performed; this faced out of the city into a vast, open field on which he set up large poles with the impaled heads of his enemies.
When it came to fighting, King always won. When evildoers aren't giants, his size and power overwhelms them in the obvious and intuitive physical manner. When they were at or near his size, he'd win in accord with kaiju battle rules regarding the good monster - he might get thrashed around a lot but always comes back until he wins in the end. When it came to larger giants, even those that dwarf him as a human would dwarf a normal mouse and view his city as an ant colony, slapstick cartoon rules kick in; "The Mouse Always Wins"
King was not a completely spotless paragon, though he certainly tried. Almost every battle scar, including the chip bitten out of his ear, was inflicted when he let his guard down around a giantess trying to take advantage of her allure and his altogether natural male desires. He would always feel extra bad about these fights after his inevitable victory, not out of self-pity but because every second by which such a fight is prolonged is one in which the bad guy can crush, eat, molest, or torture more people.
And King was not the only person tainted by watching the bad guys do what they do. King did marry one of his citizens at a certain point, and between her political instincts, compassion, and intelligence she was a very good fit for the position of Queen. However, she had ideas of things she wanted to do in the royal marriage bed that King could not abide - he knew they were possible for him, they both knew he had the physical capacity because he'd fought giants forcibly doing this to others, but he knew it was degrading and inappropriate .
I then addressed myself, also a rat at the time. "So what is your excuse?"
