Once upon a time, there was a pretty princess, living in a pretty little palace, with her pretty little people. The princess's name was Peach.

Her pretty little palace was in the Mushroom Kingdom. Her pretty little people were the Toads. Peach loved the Toads, and the Toads loved her.

Every day, the Toads woke Peach up bright and early to step out on the balcony and wave to the crowd. Then, she sat on her throne, and helped the Toads with their problems. Finally, she went into the kitchen, and cooked a big, delicious cake that all of the Toads could share.

One day, a little Toad saw that Peach looked sad.

"What's the matter, your highness?" the Toad asked.

"My little Toad," said Peach, "I don't know. I like waving to crowds, I like helping my subjects, and I like baking cakes for you. What else could make me happy?"

"Have you tried eating cake?" asked the Toad. "Eating your cake makes me happy."

He held up his half-eaten slice. Peach took the slice and ate it. The cake was delicious, and Peach smiled. She was happy.

The next day, the Toads went to Peach's bed to wake her up, when suddenly, they heard a loud SNORT! Peach got out of bed, and the Toads gasped. A silly snout had grown where her nose was!

When she got out on the balcony all the Toads stared.

"What happened to her nose?"
"Is she sick?"
"Poor Princess, that snout looks so silly."

When the Toads sat down to eat their cake, something was wrong. "Someone's licked all of the frosting off!" said the little Toad. The Toads ate the cake anyways. It was still good.

The next day, Peach woke up with a loud SNORT! She got out of bed, and the Toads gasped. Her belly was big and round, and a twirly tail was poking out of her clothes.

When she sat down to listen to the Toads' problems, the throne was too small.

"What happened to her belly?"
"Did she eat too much?"
"Poor Princess, she's starting to look like a pig."

When the Toads sat down to eat their cake, something was wrong. "Someone's eaten half the cake!" said the little Toad. The Toads ate the cake anyways, but couldn't have any seconds.

The next day, Peach woke up with a loud SNORT! She got out of bed, and the Toads gasped. She had floppy ears and hooves that made her waddle wherever she went.

When she waddled to the kitchen to bake a cake, she fell down and squealed.

"What happened to her feet?"
"Maybe she's cursed!"
"Poor Princess, at least she still bakes big, delicious cakes for us."

Then the Toads sat down to eat their cake. They waited and waited and waited, but Peach never came out with the cake. The little Toad peeked into the kitchen. "Someone ate the entire cake!"

Princess Peach was fast asleep on the kitchen floor. There was frosting smeared on her snout, crumbs in her hooves, and her big, round belly was all full up.

"That's it!" cried the Toads, "No more cake for the Princess!"

So the Toads began watching the Princess to make sure she didn't eat any cake. Slowly, she began to look more and more like she used to.

Her hooves turned back into feet, and she stopped waddling wherever she went...
Her belly got thinner, and she was able to fit into her throne again...
And her snout turned back into a nose, and she stopped snorting.
And the Toads were happy.

But one day, the Toads went to Peach's bed to wake her up. Peach got out of bed, and the Toads gasped. Peach wasn't smiling anymore.

She went to the balcony to wave, to the throne room to listen, and to the kitchen to bake, and all of the Toads said the same things.

"Why isn't she smiling?"
"She must be sad."
"Poor Princess. How can we make her feel better?"

"I have an idea!" said the little Toad. "Follow me!"

Peach came out of the kitchen with a big delicious cake, but no one was there to eat it. "Where have all of my little Toads gone?" said Peach.

She checked the dining room.
She checked the kitchen.
She checked the throne room.
Where could they be?

Then went to the balcony, and there were all of the Toads waiting outside the castle! They all shouted, "Princess! Come outside!"

Peach walked outside, and the crowd parted to reveal a big, delicious cake.

"Oh my," said Peach. "You've already baked a cake? Then surely you don't need mine."

"No, Princess," said the little Toad, "This cake is for YOU!"

The Toads cut a slice from the cake and offered it to Peach.

She ate one slice, and let out a loud SNORT!
She ate a second slice, and her belly became big and round.
She ate a third slice. Then she waddled over to the cake, bent over, and ate it all up.

And ever since that day, Peach baked cakes for the Toads, and the Toads baked cakes for Peach.

...and they were all happy.
