In this drawing, Charley Coyote recognizes the locomotive operator and assistant operator (a pine martin and a raccoon) as two fellow co-workers he knows. Charley is also a locomotive operator with the Union Pacific Railroad. This happens to be one of Charley's days off.
Charley slowed the van down to the same speed the train is going (40 mph). The pine martin and raccoon recognized the Coyote Family's van. The pine martin then gave a few short blasts on the locomotive's horn and the two train crew members waved. The family also waved back.
