Who is this winsome lass? Well she was specifically created for the Bits&Bobs storyline. I settled on the name Ezra Duncan, which I think is the sorta name you'd expect of a girl you would have an uber crush on. Ezra was chosen because it's a 4 letter name, like Kyaw and Sven, that is a little unusual. It's a name of biblical origin meaning "helper". It was traditionally a male name (kind of fitting in a way since Kyaw is actually a female name) but has since become gender neutral. The last name Duncan was chosen partly because it meshes nicely with Ezra, but also because it is a homage to Sandy Duncan, who was the voice actor of Vixey from the Fox and The Hound.
During my shift shortly before ending, I had a vivid vision of this character in my minds eye. Unfortunately I didn't get to attempt to draw her until a few days later. I didn't quite capture the original vision, but I think this is still very cute. She is basically almost a perfect realization of my feminine ideal. I consider her to be the most attractive furry girl I have created on IB thus far (according to my own preferences).
Her species was initially indeterminate. I only saw what her face looked like. I had considered a mouse, rabbit, and opossum as possibilities based on the face, but eventually I found the idea of her being a fox. I had a vision of a beautiful little fox girl swishing her tail and I found it very appealing. The fleshy mouse or opossum tail didn't seem to fit the character, and I already have a lot of rabbit characters, and I like the bushy fox tail, so that kind of settled it. I also like the idea of her being a fox because she is sorta a foil to Kyaw, who is a rabbit.
What role would she have in the story? As usual, I won't be revealing much until we are introduced to her in the story. The details are still technically up in the air, but I felt compelled to draw and create this girl character even if I decided not to use her in this story. She was simply too appealing not to create.
Unfortunately I do not know much about her as of yet. I figured I'd figure out her appearance and species and then develop the character from there. I would like her to be more than a pretty face. I like my characters to be well rounded (consider Kyaw, Sven, Jonah, and Jonathan for examples). Even though I tend to focus on male characters, in theory this principle should apply to the female characters as well. However the audience may not get to know much about her since we would only learn about her through Kyaw and Sven. In other words, the audience would only know what they know. But for world building purposes she will still have her own life and personality outside of the main narrative. At least that's what I'm thinking. At the moment inspiration hasn't struck. Female characters are trickier for me than male characters since I can not relate to them as well. I think my most successful female characters thus far are Kyaw's three female cousins, who all have distinct and interesting personalities (you can read Bits&Bobs: The Princess&The Pirate, to see their personalities in action. Each is a little strange in their own way). I think love interests in general are kind of difficult, and are too often flat and underdeveloped. This phenomena is not limited to female love interests. Male love interests frequently suffer from the same problem. It seems to be more a function of all the focus being put on the main character and the love interest being far too idealized.
Anyway, the main goal here was to first make sure I had a character that was very physically desirable. A girl worthy of an intense and devoted crush. I think I have succeeded in that first step. The second step will be to figure out her character behind the scenes.
