I feel like he's twisting the "actual" story a bit to manipulate him into thinking that his actions were justified. Could be, but I'm not entirely sold on the idea that Alex is this unseeming character that in reality would be thirsty for revenge.

I mean if you look between the kid and adult story telling-- yeah, they easily contradict eachother
Alex didnt keep it for revenge he kept it and hid it so Stan didnt get in trouble
Theres probably some animosity though like "Yeah, fucker got what he gets"
And its kinda- true, Roth was a little asshole and violent to the point he would inflict harm with a KNIFE. regardless of raising, consequences dont care about your age and its comeuppance tbh
