I absolutely love these two. I love the fact they fit so naturally together in my story as well. After discussing it over in depth the full series arc of Marle and Max with Max's owner, he and I came to the agreement that this relationship was to the benefit of them both narratively. Both are special in some way. Max is high functioning autistic and Marle, although not the same, has mental and emotional blocks similar due to her rather horrible upbringing. Their "supposed" glaring faults are actually blessings to each other and their strengths only complete the other. Two unlikely mammals finding each other by the things they share in common and how they can relate to each other but not very well with anyone else. It's no secret they get together - in fact, the first chapter Marle appears in book 3, these two are already shacking it up. Granted, there are story-based reasons for this and it is made MUCH clearer why this is with the proper context within the story, but it is so refreshing to have a fast burn relationship straight out of the gate instead of slowly nurturing a long burn one like I have with Taylor and Jake. With Marle and Max, I can just start from the beginning of their relationship and just work with them from there. A totally different mindset when writing a couple compared to two people who've yet to address their feelings for each other. Hopefully people will be on board with this unusual pairing and enjoy them as much as I am writing them!
Yes, it’s definitely a different sort of relationship where the sparks fly first before they settle into loving each other for more than just the chemistry.
