Anyway, in response to Gene's mis-species-ing (I declare that a word!), I made a sketch dump titled 'Gene Does Cat Things'. The upload showed Gene ...doing cat things, such as fishing, grooming, and playing with yarn. The purpose was to prove Gene's catness ...but I still couldn't draw (so it failed).
Today, things are different! Very, very different! ...I mean, I still can't draw, but in today's world 'Gene Does Cat things' doesn't exist ...because I deleted it. To replace it, I'm releasing the very first themed set of One-Cent ACEO: 'Gene Does Cat Things' (GDCT).
GDCT will be a set of four cards, each representing a beloved (HA!) illustration from the original sketch dump.
The first card in the set is titled 'Fish' ...because if we've learned anything from Pixar, one-word titles sell! :D

Anyway, Gene has caught a fish: tilapia in this case.
I think the word 'tilapia' is funny, so expect it to occur in my art here and there, for no other reason whatsoever.

Pencil...
This is a boring 'Castell 9000'. Everyone who has a pencil has a Castell 9000 ...but this one is a little bit special.
What you're looking at is the back panel of the pencil. It reads,
"Lead imported from American Zone-Germany"
The pencil barrel (the wooden part) was made in America, but the graphite core was made in Germany, just after WWII (American Zone-Germany effectively means 'Occupied Germany').
There's a good story behind this pencil, but ...Guys, I've had three glasses of shiraz---as I'm writing this, I'm experiencing some kind of reality that doesn't otherwise exist ...as an episode of 'Under the Umbrella Tree' plays in the background (it's fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymjinluwGTE ...anyway)
So, what's the story of this pencil, as told by a tipsy Chippy?
Concisely, Nazis had taken over the Castell pencil factory during the war, partially converting it into a munitions plant. The pencil factory had to be conquered, for the Castells didn't give it up willingly (they were blackmailed and lied to).
After the war, American soldiers set up operations within the factory ...because they liked pencils, I guess.
Once the Castells were cleared of any Nazi loyalties, the exporting of German-made pencil leads began once more! Pencils made during Germany's occupation have the 'American Zone-Germany' mark on them.
I think this will be a good mini-series all about arguably my favorite character of your bunch... Gene. This one's a good pic of good ol' innocent Gene so proud of himself that he caught a fish. Almost as if saying... "Talipia... see I can naturally catch fish, because, well, Ima cat!" lol
I'm sorry... but for the life of me, I really thought your 'a' looked like an 'n' or a backwards Russian 'n'... but that's penmanship for ya.
Now on with the mini-series. I think I'll enjoy seeing all the ways Gene reminds us that he's a cat lol.

If that's really a 5B then you have one of the lightest touches I've ever seen! That should almost be as black as ink. Either that or the 5B's I'm using are mismarked and a LOT softer than I've been lead *haha* to believe! ;D
