"Deep in a part of Rose-Petal Place, Lives a mean old spider with an ugly face! Nastina is this spider's name, And making mischief is her game! But rose-Petal knows how to handle this spider, Her strength and determination make her the mightier! Through all of Nastina's silly pranks, We still owe her a vote of thanks! Of course she is a nasty one, But she does make the garden lots of fun!"
...Yeah, about that---in the 1984 special, Nastina almost killed Rose-Petal (oh such fun!). :P
Anyway,
'Rose-Petal Place' was a 1980's *series of animated specials intended as commercials for the toy line.
*I can find only one special (the one from 1984), though Wikipedia claims two (as of 10/27/2021).
Basically, a little girl had to move away from her home and garden. Because the child wouldn't be around to care for the garden any longer, she made a wish that the garden would live forever. Her wish resulted in the birth of Rose-Petal: a tiny, anthropomorphic flower-girl hybrid (and I guess the births of her friends as well, who are also flower people).
Every series needs a villain, and Rose-Petal Place's is Nastina the Spider (along with her idiot henchman: Horace the Horsefly). ^^ Evil spiders go well with this time of year, don't cha think? ^^
Anyway, my drawing is intentionally unfinished. Sometimes, I like to look at my original line art, so I left this card without delineation (as I did, most recently, with my ACO of Ronno).
Pencil...
The featured pencil is a WWII-era 'Blackcraft' pencil. I don't know the maker of the Blackcraft, albeit, I've seen post-war variations of it (the name on those is hyphenated [Black-Craft], but the number [404] remains the same).
The featured specimen has a nice, decorated paper ferrule.
Part of me wonders whether the rationing of metals and the consequent alterations of pencil ferrules inspired the 'Ad-Tip' variety that began production post-rationing (certainly, not many had given thought to pencil ferrules before, so it makes sense, whether true or not).
Speaking of spiders, I had a brief encounter with a beautiful orange-and-yellow one the other day, after I accidentally walked into her web. ^^ The spider took the opportunity to hitch a ride on my backpack, but I've a strict no-passengers philosophy: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/TnKBvGbrCvA
I'm not at all afraid of spiders, so she got to live, and I was able to continue my walk without any upset. :3
Oh wow that's a blast from the past. I forgot this one was called Rose-Petal Place, I had it confused with Peppermint Rose but that was a different show.
