Skip and Sophia are now traveling along a stretch where the old Route 66 has been made into Interstate 40. At mile post 224, they are not very far from Cline's Coners, which is already most of the way home. The car radio is playing This I Swear, by the Skyliners.
This reminds me of a model kit I once bought. It was a 1959 Ford Galaxie Sunliner with a retractable hardtop. It came with figures of a couple snuggling like Skip and Sophia, but I decided to leave them out. After seeing this, I may have to get another kit of that same car and include the couple next time.
