I suspect that her mom might have left and the letter you see her dad reading in the first panel is talking about that. ah after reading some of her and his letters (kind of hard to read but you get bits) it verifies she left not just sad dad in panel one.
that said the fact he is tied down so much and naked in the last panel gives me concerns.
Also not sure why but it makes me wince more than normal when they kick him because well wouldn't they basically skewer their own feet on his quills since nobody wears shoes?

after seeing him mutilate his own hands earlier it stuck with me. also made me think thats why a certain someone was in a full body suit. to help with the i'm not touching her mental concerns.

There are bits and pieces like how Aileen's supporters are well-meaning but misguided - it ultimately shows Zaggy as having no hard feelings to most of them, at least not those who are threatening his lawyer and the judge. Also I now worry about this treatment that seems to prevent healing, make his eyes deformed and give him a massive phobia of ciswomen. If I didn't know any better, I'd say it would resemble the treatment from A Clockwork Orange where the protagonist is conditioned to get violently sick at the sight of violence and, as a side-effect, the sound of Classical music.
(Wait, there's a knife and a hacksaw there, and a bottle of what I suspect is bleach or antiseptic)

Probably because it wasn't a teenage girl who took the pictures, but a professional private investigator who could find his address, his children's school and was able to find a family photograph (implying they have access to his property or otherwise somewhere where private photographs are stored)... I think his fear was that if he didn't find Zaggy guilty, the addresses would be made public and same protestors would start to hound his home... or a misguided vigilante who would bring harm to him and his family. The only way out would be to go into witness protection effectively or have round-the-clock security.

You just have to look at what eventually happened to his attorney to see what would have been the end result for the judge and his family. Of course, if they had tried that on the judge, they'd probably have had a higher risk of police intervention since threats to public officials usually get a stronger response than some random legal counsel.

Looks to be a Mexican tree porcupine in a guard uniform delivering the letter. I also noticed the warden's cactus, not afraid of prickly things. I liked the little detail changes over time in her room, like the poster and hairstyle. I'm enjoying lots of the details in the background of these pages as I'm reluctantly drawn into this story by some (not as extreme) parallels to my own prickly life.

So I think Rayco can help them both if they can fix Zaggy rejecting the fixes. He can be restored and she can be made whole too, past what primitive cosmetic surgery and hormones can do.
Two misfits who found each other… I can only hope a restored Zaggy can make proper love to the only person in the world who loves him back.

Yeah I know I’m late to the game but I already love this comic.I can relate to him in many ways. Now I never been charged or sent to jail/prison. But many people have made accusations about me based off the lies others have said and I’ve come really close to being in the same position(minus not being a real animal or experimentation LOL)
Either way, this is an amazing comic you have and I can feel for him

Hello, I just want to say, loving the comic so far! <3
To be honest, I didn't pay too much attention to it at first. Thinking it was just one of the weekly comics out there, one of the hundreds. But I am so glad I am giving misbegotten kitten a chance. The orphanage section in the first part was the one that got me hooked. And it just snowballed from there, until here I am, at the latest part^^
Loving the goodness one can find even in the crapsack world, and that even in the utopia, people still wants and do bad things. Loving the hopeful feelings, of looking past the bad, towards bettering one self. Not to mention the cleverness. This comic gave me a lot of feelings <3
I know I am just one fan, but... you just got yourself a new fan <3
Now I am looking forward to the rollercoaster life of the cute quilled boy <3
