“There we go, it’s a little big on you but it’ll work”
Sunshine smiles a bit as the little Chao chirps weakly and smiles up at him from where they were laying on the hedgehog’s lap, feeling safer and warmer in the small blue sweater Sunshine had helped them put on.
“It was supposed to belong to my baby boy, but you can have it now. There’s no point in just letting it sit on a shelf gathering dust, right?”
The hedgehog smiles sadly as the Chao drifts off to sleep again before deciding to go to sleep himself. The small creature seemed to spend most of their time sleeping or eating as they recovered from their injury, slowly but surely healing and regaining their strength and energy.
“N-No…wait, please don’t…don’t take m-my…NO!”
Sunshine cries out as he bolts upright on the couch a few hours later, startling his Chao awake from the noise and sudden movement. The hedgehog breathes heavily and glances around his dark living room, subconsciously resting a hand on his stomach as he slowly calms down.
“Oh…sorry, little one…I just had a nightmare about a bad memory, I’m okay now”
He coos softly, petting the white Chao as they crawl onto his lap to comfort him and quickly goes back to sleep. Sunshine sighs and gently moves the Chao so it was laying on a throw pillow next to him, smiling a bit when the small creature snuggles closer to him.
“You still need a name, don’t you…?” He mumbles as he sat awake on the couch in the living room late at night, holding onto a small teal baby blanket. He found himself unable to fall back to sleep after having that horrible memory repeat over and over in his mind whenever he tried to sleep, still as vivid to him as if it had just happened yesterday. The hedgehog sighs and folds his son’s blanket to put it back in the closet of what should have been the little boy’s bedroom but he stops and turns to look at Ivory when he sees them squirming and whining in their sleep, he covers up the small Chao and smiles a bit when they calm down.
“Goodnight, little buddy” He whispers as he lays down next to Ivory on the couch.
