It's Ellie's 11th birthday and Rachel has just given her present. It's not a huge thing, but as Ellie hugs and kisses her best friend on the cheek. Rachel feels something. She thinks she might have felt it before with Ellie, but isn't sure. It's stronger this time – a bit of a tingly feeling in her tummy that she can't quite explain. She's quite glad they're alone though, as she can feel herself blushing and is a bit embarrassed that she's feeling like this – yet wonders if Ellie feels the same?
The girls have been playing around a bit before now in their since-toddlerhood friendship, but that's just that: playing, being friends. Yet it is not the times they've seen each other in various states of undress, nor the times when they've playfully explored each others' bodies, but something small like a hug and a peck on the cheek after receiving a small gift that makes Rachel take note of her burgeoning more-than-friends relationship with Ellie, and realise this is something more.
Ellie also decided that today was a day she would try putting her hair in a ponytail rather than her usual plaits - and it's not because it was easier to draw...
