Was it intentional that cody is holding onto the panel border in the last panel? 😁 Also those panel borders are a bit confusing to me. I'm constantly questioning whether cody and those two professors are as close to each other as it seems or if they are in very different locations but can still hear each other?

My guess is this is sorta like Cabin in the Woods- where “the sight” and the people behind it are analogous to the reader and author. The groundskeeper did say our poor main character made it easy to choose a “volunteer.”
If it’s the same idea, having to please some in-universe incarnation of the readers, it would definitely explain the retconning.
