Panel 5. The ship's crew were a group of very capable and trusted sea rats. Gwendolyn's uncle knew the captain personally and they were all well paid. They also knew in the back of their minds that this was a one way trip. Some of them accepted it immediately, others kept that reality bottled up with hopes of returning to Mossflower. So when the day came to disassemble the ship, you can imagine some emotions were expressed. The ship was all that remained of a home they'd never see again, and they were going to destroy it.

We can't have a witch's house in the woods without a decadent dessert.

Actually I'd completely forgotten about your comment. But I appreciate it nonetheless.

She baked the cake three days ago?  Likely she baked into it something to make her young partner forget the past few days with her so that she can safely take him home.
Just a theory.

Nah, coincidence. What's an old witch lady without decadent sweets in her house?

She knew he was CUMMING so she Baked a Cake!!  :D

I will be truly stunned if anyone gets that reference / pun but I HAD to do it!

Also that cake sound delicious. And is such a neat way to transition from a truly depressing story / situation to a happier one. :D

Ashchu for the first part, and upon googling the second part just to see how obscure it could be, the oldest reference appears to be a 1950 song by Eileen Barton. Not as old as I thought it would be.

Panel 1: that valve. Looks pretty modern with machined polished surfaces and multiple sliding seals. It's easy (on a per-unit basis anyway) to make thousands of that sort of thing in a dedicated factory, surprisingly hard to make just one that works reliably even in a sophisticated machine shop. Maybe Gwendolyn is not as isolated from the industrializing outside world as it seems?

Panel 2 & 6: NO COLLAR! That's the first time we've ever seen her without it, past or present, even sleeping, bathing, or having sex. I know I was reading way more into it than you intended, at least we know she can take it off if she wants to! Why did she take it off this one time?

Panel 9: three day old cake. Okay, now we know for sure Gwendolyn is cheating with her 'medieval peasant lifestyle' schick worse than the SCA ("recreating the middle ages the way it SHOULD have been!"). Real bread tastes better and is better for you but it goes stale really fast: like hours fast. Grocery store bread with all its preservatives has the convenience that we actually want regardless of what we tell ourselves.

"sharing it with you means a great deal to me." Hmm: feel like Chucky should pay attention here. What's the big deal with this simple-seeming treat?!

The cabin isn't originally hers, she mentions it to Chucky quite few pages back when explaining the 'trick of light' spell that keeps it hidden. Witches with the power of flight could travel far and wide enough to acquire all sorts of things over time, even good hardware. Her home is rather isolated, IF your only means of travel is by foot.

It just made sense not to have her sleep in it.

Stale cake? Dude, she's a witch. Maybe she put a spell on it, maybe she wrapped it in something that protected it. Maybe there is enough sugar baked into it that it'll last for a while. Either way, she baked a cake and they're going to eat it too.

"We can't have a witch's house in the woods without a decadent dessert."

At least, her house is not made of gingerbread, cake, and candy and with window panes of clear sugar. ;-)

I thought about that. Well, she had a different kind of treat for her visitor.

Maybe they'll save some for you. I wonder how Pinton would do in the Chuckyverse. Chucky would probably find him fun and amusing. Not sure how he and Gwendolyn would get along though, that's a tough one.

Pinton would feel at home in any universe where beer exists.
Chucky

Oh, in that case he would be just fine here.
