dragon got a lucky hit, dragon has massive damage output and kobold put so much into dodge he likely had no defenses and almost no health.

Sort of a "ill kill you with a million little cuts before you can hit me." vs "I only have to hit you once to win let's see what happens first"

at least that's what i'm seeing.

The little commode also had massive health and stamina replenishing drinks. What I don't understand is how the dragon actually laid claws on them.

I assumed fighting without sleep cost health which is why he used healing potions but if one attack from the dragon does double your health on a glancing hit it won't help when/if you get hit.

Why is everyone assuming that the artist changed what was happening due to comments? They are an experienced artist who has been quite productive on-line for years. I'm certain they have experience with negative comments before, and have thick enough skin not to let it affect them too much.

It also says that it is an experimental strip, meaning that they are probably going to try some things that are not so typical.

Additionally, complaining about the change, whether that is the case, seems pretty much like posting a negative comment in and of itself. It kind of makes it sound like you don't trust them.

If you don't like where it's going -- or where you assume it's going -- then stop reading.

As for me, I'm going to trust the artist knows what they are doing (especially since they've made so many wonderful pieces before) and keep reading until we reach an end.

agree. i kept basically thinking lets say the dodge rate is 99.999 percent. thats amazing but at the cost of health and defenses so it only takes one hit to take out the hero. Sure it would take 100,000 attacks on average or something like that to hit him but with the dragons health and the kobolds output it was a very possible inevitability.

It would have been interesting, but at the same time he only put points into dodge basically so even if say he has a 99.999 percent chance to dodge that means that one in 100,000 will hit and if he has no defenses and minimal health to boost dodge it only takes one hit for the dragon to win.

I did like the way the character fought though.

Who even posts to Deviant art anymore? I hope this isn't actually because of a bunch of overly sensitive idiots... not that I'm hoping this was the intention all along either, because.. I actually liked the character, and if the dragon was legit with their backstory, that still doesn't make what they are doing right, just made all those fears of the people who did what they did justified.

People here don't have much confidence in vavacung do they? I trust he knows what he's doing.
This page mentions why Braver in particular was needed to defeat the dragon, which is a good setup to reveal he's not dead in a page or two.
Or maybe not but I'm sure they have something more satisfying planned.

If this really wasn't the intended direction and it was changed due to haters, that makes things a lot worse though, but I'm not convinced of that. Vavacung isn't even on twitter.
Still, if that is the case, one thing they can do is wrap up the comic in a page or two and call it the "Dragon Wins" ending. Then they could rewind to this page and have it play out differently. That would satisfy the most people I think.

80% chance this goes into a rage spiral. The artist is hurt/pissed and is going to take it out on someone. That's gonna be us. Meanwhile, the trolls and haters are going to laugh their ASSES off at this. Personally? My only problem was the story kept feeling like it was stalling out and losing flow. You don't want to bog down what is basically a rape fic. It's a hard, dirty, indulgent thing like the act itself.

Welp. That doesn't bode well for the comic. I can't really blame him though.
I just checked his DA and I'm guessing that's where most comments were from, which doesn't bode well either but a multiple ending scenario could still happen.

To be fair, I'm not sure there was ever a proper ending planned to begin with. There's been an implied sex scene impending since the start but the comic is largely sfw (no implied genitals or even genders) so I was never sure how he'd be able to conclude it. The stalling out people have mentioned might just be Vavacung stalling to figure out how to end it.
But anyway, it can still probably be good.

She did indeed say that she will stop drawing it. This series is a public series, not a patron series, so the comments from its public postings (DA, FA, IB, …) are having a big impact. Which can be seen clearly starting with strip XLI.
