It was a bright sunny day and a young feline anthro stopped next to a wishing well. This feline anthro, named Luna, knew wishing wells were often a hoax. He hadn't seen one in ages in fact. He was surprised to see there was one in front of a restaurant where he planned to have dinner.
The dark furry cat anthro noticed the wishing well had a sign next to it stating that any money tossed in would go to a local children's hospital. "Well, who 'wouldn't toss a quarter in?" Luna commented. A quick glance down the well confirmed that many tossed money in. He doubted that any wishes could come true from the well of course. He pulled out a quarter, and glanced at the well. "Maybe not rich and fame...but what?" He wondered if whoever built this well, built it because of a child. 'Maybe if I make a wish a child would want.' He thought to himself with a chuckle.
"I wish I was taller." It felt like such a stupid wish. He flipped the quarter into the well and walked into the restaurant.
The restaurant was a Chinese themed one, complete with two Chinese dragons meeting each other over the archway. Luna thought the place was a little odd, but the scent of Chinese food easily made him hungry. He walked inside, grabbed a menu, and looked it over. He heard his stomach rumble while he looked it over and idly scratched his stomach. It was as he rubbed his gut, he felt his shirt ride up slightly. He pulled it back down, and tried to think nothing of it. 'Man...I'm feeling dizzy too. Maybe I'm just dizzy with hunger.' He didn't think he was that hungry. In fact, he had to keep pulling his shirt down as he felt his fur expose itself to the air around him. The strange sensation of his shirt so small made him think he was fat, but he knew he wasn't fat. He was average at best in terms of weight. He was a normal everyday cat anthro, yet his shirt kept bugging him.
Luna looked over the menu of what to eat. He decided to sit down on a red chair with a gold colored cushion, but sitting felt strange. He leaned back and he could put his shoulders over the top of the chair easily. He didn't think he was that tall. 'Something just feels so off.' He just couldn't pinpoint what was so strange, besides his shirt. His shirt didn't feel so small that it felt tight; it just felt as if he exposed a midriff with it, and no amount of pulling down helped cover it up. In fact, it felt worse every time he tugged down and then let go.
Luna tried to ignore his strange feeling and just ordered himself some fried rice. He sat around and looked around as he waited. He shifted his shoulders, and it felt as if the chair on his back slowly shrank behind him. He pushed his back up against the chair and waited. After a good ten seconds, he didn't think he felt anything different, so he leaned forward. 'This is getting silly. My shirt is just acting weird. That's all. I just have to get a new one on at some point.'
Luna's food arrived and he reached down to get a fork to eat it. He quickly encountered a problem when his hand couldn't reach the table. "What the heck?" He thought that if he were growing taller, then his arms should still be able to reach. He stretched and pulled his arms down, but they just couldn't touch the top of the table. He felt ridiculous. He leaned down and managed to grab the fork, but he couldn't get to his food without shifting it forward on the table. He felt silly bending forward the way he did. His body felt almost as if it bent into an 'L' shape, and that was just to eat. He grabbed a bite and ate, but it was hard to enjoy the taste of the food when he was panicking over his body. He knew something was different. Sure, the difference was slight, but it was enough of a change that he had to bend down to the table to eat when he knew a normal person should not have to need to do that. He ate half of his food before he grabbed his fortune cookie and leaned back against the chair again.
Luna very much noticed a difference in height as he leaned back against the chair. The back of the chair felt much shorter, as if he were sitting in a toddler chair. He tried to ignore it and opened up the fortune cookie. He ate the cookie and read his fortune.
'You will face many challenges today.'
"No kidding." Luna groaned. With his meal eaten, he now had two new challenges at hand. He had to reach into his pocket to get out his wallet so he could pay, and then he had to stand up and walk away. He reached down and quickly realized he couldn't get to the wallet in his pants. "Oh you've got to be kidding me."
Luna stood up and felt wobbly. He leaned forward, but then pulled himself backward. He would have fallen backward had he not immediately sat back down in the chair. "This...is going to be a problem." He felt silly. His arms felt so much shorter, but a quick glance at his furry arms confirmed they hadn't changed in length at all. His torso however was much taller. The lower half of his torso showed itself off to the world. He pulled himself up and felt himself wobble again. He felt as if he were one of the strange tube men car dealerships would use, but he didn't know the name of them. He stood up straight, and there was no doubt he was taller. He swore he'd only been sitting for maybe 20 minutes at the most, yet he felt so different.
A Chinese woman walked up to the table and set down a piece of paper, the bill. "Here you are sir. If there is anything else you need, please let me know, and I will do my best to help you."
Luna put his head in his hands. He could easily reach his head, but nothing below his torso. "Not unless you can grab my wallet for me." He said with a frustrated sigh.
"You ah..." The server looked down at Luna's waist. "You want me to reach into your pocket and pull out your wallet?"
Luna knew how weird it sounded. He felt silly for making such a request, but he wasn't sure how he could reach it himself. "I mean, look." He reached down to try to get to his pockets, but they felt farther away than before. He bent forward and landed on the table with his upper torso, but he still couldn't reach to his pockets. He then leaned back, but he still couldn't get to his pockets. He felt like a rubber toy with a 'very' flexible torso. It almost felt comical that he couldn't reach into his pockets to pay for his meal. He glanced around the restaurant as he looked for something, and then he got an idea. "Can you get me a pair of chopsticks?"
The female server held up the chopsticks at Luna's table. "These?"
Luna grabbed onto the chopsticks and took a deep breath. "Yes, thank you." He wasn't going to let a few extra inches on his torso stop him from doing what he needed to do. He reached down with his chopsticks and managed to get the very tips of them into his pocket. He grabbed onto his wallet and pulled it up slowly, as if grabbing a prize from the skill crane machine. When the wallet was high enough, he tried to grab it, but he caused the wallet to fall back into his pocket. Frustratingly, he tried repeatedly until finally he pulled it high enough to get it out. "Hah! Got it!" With a smile on his face, he paid for his meal, all while the server stared in disbelief over what Luna just did.
If Luna had to guess, his torso was nearly twice as long as before, and his shirt could no longer cover half his torso. He managed to stand up after thrusting his torso up, as if trying to do a sit up, but he then immediately fell forward. He pushed himself up, and balanced himself to stand. He walked to the door and left the restaurant. He wasn't so tall that his head hit the banister, but he was undoubtedly taller than before. He was taller than most other people, but only the upper half of his torso and his arms were taller. If he stood by a person side by side, his legs would measure about the exact same as the other person's.
Luna noticed the well just as he left the restaurant. He walked up to it and glanced down at it. The well had no top, and the sun shined down to show off the change within the well. Luna looked around him, and then down at the bottom of the well. 'Okay, I'm just...I'm not stealing anything. I just want to get my quarter back.' He thought to himself. He had to undo that wish to be taller. He could only assume the wish made him so lanky.
Luna walked over to the side of the well and decided to try to take advantage of his new lanky body. He bent forward and down into the well. He felt silly, but he could easily bend his body into a reverse 'U' shape. He just couldn't make it down the well. His head dipped down, and he reached his arms down to the various bits of change and dollar bills below. He didn't know what quarter was his, but he figured he could just grab any quarter and that would be more than enough to undo the wish, and not take any more than that, just in case he ended up suffering some worse wrath, like shrinking to nothing.
Luna couldn't quite reach the quarter. He wasn't sure how much taller he was going to get, but he had to keep trying. He then felt 'something' that made him pull back up. As he pulled his lanky body, now over 2 meters taller, he saw a woman and a young child watching him in disgust. Luna scratched the back of his head nervously and laughed. "I erm...I....dropped...something in there." He then realized just 'how' much taller he was. He was well over twice his original height, but it all went right into his torso. It felt like a bizarre growth spurt he couldn't believe, and it just now hit him how much bigger he truly was, yet he wasn't tall enough to reach that quarter. He scratched his head, unsure what to do. He could feel his growth continuing bit by bit, even if it took him a little bit longer to realize how much bigger he was getting. "Well...what am I going to do now?" He looked off as the woman and child walked away.
Luna sighed frustratingly. He walked back home as he continued to grow. By the time he got home, he was so tall that he had to duck down to get inside, and he had to hold onto the top of the banister so he wouldn't fall from bending forward or backward to get through the doorway.
Luna would have guessed he must have been 3.5 meters taller now, more or less. His head bumped up against the ceiling. Despite the growth, his shirt still fit him, but it didn't cover much of his torso. His pants also still fit him too, as if he hadn't grown at all. It was a strange growth, one that he could probably call elongation. It was a struggle to stand and bend without falling. He felt like one of the dragons he saw in the Chinese restaurant, just in a cat anthro form. With a sigh, he looked over at the television and noticed an ad. He left the television on when he left. Not that he could turn it on or off easily now as bending down for anything was almost impossible.
He'd need a new job, and a new way to live. The ad he saw was about basketball, and with a brief thought, he figured maybe that he could try his luck at that.
