Some months ago, I was perusing YouTube for vintage Nickelodeon recordings when I happened upon an upload of Eureeka's Castle, complete with its original commercials. Said upload was fairly long, and though I disliked Eureeka's Castle as a child (and still do to this day), I thought to sit through it despite, for the old commercials as well as the 'movies'.
Movies?
Such is the word the cast of Eureeka's Castle used to describe some of the show's supplemental material---animated or live-action shorts featured alongside the show's original content. One such animated subject was the 'James the Cat' animations.
I had forgotten about James the Cat. ^^
Again, James the Cat is among those strange short animations that tend to supplement variety/skit shows. Others would include Curious George, Barney (sheepdog), Towser, Charlie's Climbing Tree, and King Rollo (to name a few).
I wasn't sure whether I should add James the Cat to my draw list---the character is a bit too simple (such characters look bad in my pen) and James didn't seem obscure enough for One-Cent ACO (James has an appreciable amount of fan art).
Meh.
One day as I was going through the day's uploads, I happened on a James the Cat fanart. I decided to comment on it, and met a James superfan: FlyerBoy1234: https://www.deviantart.com/flyerboy1234 ^^
I shared with them my find of the 'Waterworks' episode from Eureeka's Castle---an episode that hadn't been uploaded by itself at the time.
This began a conversation, and led to me adding James to my draw list ...and a month or so after, this card would be the consequence. ^^
I drew James with my Zephyr pencil, and delineated him via this vintage 'Pedigree' pencil by Empire. The 'Pedigree' is a good all-around pencil, and its title seemed fitting for James (who is a bit prideful).
