Hmm... Wikipedia gathers a lot of sources to suggest America just never decided what day should be Children's Day. A couple presidents even tried to offer possible days, but we really can't get all the states to agree on one day.

It's so weird that, in Brazilian Portuguese, "cachorro" came to mean "dog" rather than cub.

In Swedish it is called Barnens Dag, and is usually celebrated on May 14th with games and parades and ice-cream. It's become less and less celebrated over the years, though, I don't really know why.

If you've seen The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (American or Swedish version) or read the book, the Barnens Dag Parade in Hedestad plays a significant role in the mystery plot.

Ooh that's right!!! I've watched the american version hehe.
And about thatt it has been becoming celebrated less and less, it happens too with the Día del niño here in Mexico, and I think that with many celebrations of the year, I don't know either why. Maybe the world feels that they have more important things to do :s
