Nobody is gonna make shit happen for you but yourself, I know that much. I grew up in a poor, dysfunctional family down in Monterey County – my father died when I was nine, my mother I haven’t seen or heard from in half a decade. So yeah, ever since I was a teenager I’ve had to learn how to survive by myself, including getting in and out of shitty situations.

I... know how most of the undersides of bridges in the city look. I've brawled, loitered, indulged in a ton of things... and regretted a ton of said things in the following days. But out of all outcomes, I was blessed with a second, and in many cases, third, fourth, fifth, sixth shot, to the point I eventually manned up and decided to make shit right for myself.

Becoming a single father at twenty-three literally changed my life. My son Brockton was the wake-up call I so desperately needed to figure out I’d better get my life sorted quick. It’s been awfully tough at first because kids don’t come with an instruction manual, but at the same time I don’t really regret making that choice, though I fully realize most people will find my decision of being a single father somewhat... weird, if not downright degenerate. I work from 9pm to 3am, only to get home maybe one hour later and immediately crash out. Thankfully, friends and family make it all work out, and I could not be happier of this janky little system I got running. I'm blessed to have the right people in my life, and I'm always in the mindset of "gonna repay you three times as much".

I’ve been working as a bouncer at a night club in Fresno for five years now: I’m big, tough and intimidating, I know how to deal with the kind I was and come out winning. I come across people of all species and from all walks of life – my job is to be sure everyone’s having a good time at the club without attempting any funny business. I know how to take care of intoxicated people, to defuse conflicts and to defend myself and others from attacks of all kinds. Between drunkards and thugs, it’s not a glamorous stint, but it pays the bills and keeps food on the table for me and Brock.

Working with my body means I need to be at the top of the physical game, 24/7. With the little time I got I practice mixed martial arts three times a week, go swimming every free moment I got, and train young fighters at a local boxing gym. I take pride in teaching kids in my position the skills to survive in a tough environment, and most importantly, I want to tell them shit's not over. As I lived through the ugliest life has to offer, I feel it's my duty to help kids who I feel are in the same area: stuck, despondent, dealing with deprivations and all kinds of family shit. Stand up, dust off and grab life by the jugular real tight and say "I'm in control now, bitch!"

I feel I’m the American Mustelid Alpha because I’ve had to fight for everything I have ever since day one, and learn quickly how to take trash and make it my treasure, take a shitty situation and make it feel like... a fucking 3-night stay in a fancy Fresno hotel. There is very little that can "pressure" me nowadays, and certainly it ain't other guys thinking they're hot shit in a champagne flûte. This show feels like the one shot I need to provide a better future to both myself and my son. Sun Tzu said that “in the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity” and American Mustelid Alpha feels like my opportunity to prove myself and how much I’m worth. And right here, right now, I am worth the winning spot. This is it.

A former homeless addict and single dad from one of the poorest furry communities in northern California, Crispin has seen rock bottom and can now stare at it with a smile on his face. Living on the road has provided this lutrine brawler with all sorts of hacks and street smarts, but it was the birth of his son Brockton which helped him the most at keeping his demons in check. A thoughtful, hardened individual with a penchant for extensive body art and the Zen philosophy, Crispin joins AMA as an otter on a mission: winning the 250k cash prize to provide some much needed stability to himself and his six-year-old kid.

Thanks a bunch to the amazing Crocdragon89 who took on the duty of drawing the whole cast and played a major part in bringing our vision to life! <3

From now on, we'll be posting each upcoming episode in two parts for easier reading - first part coming out on Tuesdays, second part on Thursdays. Episode 2, "What Are The Chances?", will be out on January 5th and 7th!

American Mustelid Alpha is the brainchild of HeadQuarters (the joint project of Qovapryi and Harlow). Crispin Aebersold and all mentioned characters belong to them both.
