I suggested Gene and Tasli kissing under the mistletoe (they are both straight characters and Chippy does not draw that sort of thing). Even a crude drawing in crayon of those two kissing would make me happy. Needless to say Chippy didnt oblige my half serious half joking request. But that got me thinking, if I couldnt see those two kissing I could at least draw my own characters in a similar scenario!
Here we have Kyaw sneaking a surprise kiss under the mistletoe with Sven. For once they are not in their standard get ups but are decked out in fancy christmas garbs. They are at some kind of christmas party and perhaps Kyaw tricked Sven into standing under the mistletoe and then planted that unexpected kiss. As you can see Kyaw is practically in ecstasy, but Sven has nervously withdrawn in surprise. Still he looks more worried than mad or upset. Obviously they are in public, so Sven is more concerned they will be seen or his father would find out than the fact that Kyaw kissed him. Granted he probably finds that weird but at this point he kinda knows to expect weird things from Kyaw. Its at times like these he questions his sanity being friends with this boy.
In terms of continuity this is probably 1st grade, so they have been friends for about 3/4 of a year at this point in the story.
I am pretty happy with how this turned out. Both look super cute and the poses are pretty close to my original intention. Kyaw just throws caution to the wind and goes full passion into it, and Sven has a worried yet vulernable withdrawal that suggests conflicted feelings with this turn of events. This was my first attempt at drawing a furry kiss and I think it turned out okay.

Might make one more piece of art before years end, and Ive got plans for next year but that will have to wait until after the holidays.

But i have to be in control of the action---I draw what is acceptable for me and my cartoon world. Homosexuality DOES exist in my world (in MT), but in ways I choose to represent it.
At day's end, my art is about what I know, and about my experiences (as a hetero-romantic asexual). It's more honest that way. :3

Sure. And you have your boundaries of what you are comfortable with. I dont know why im obsessed with males and in particular male furries but I am. I like the idea of romance between these types of characters, conflicted romance sometimes (as the case here). Doesnt have to necessarily be always sexual either. The chaste version can be kinda a romantic notion as well (our love goes beyond sex kinda thing). One Stormy Night is a good example of this that is chaste romantic and conflicted. Dont know if id appeal to you but Id recommend the english dub on youtube if you can stomach furry boys being sappy overly sentimental/attached with each other. Its a rarity in media so I consider it special. And just so I dont steer you down the wrong path im refering to the movie not the kids tv show version that turns one of the characters into a girl to avoid this very issue.
Now if someone were to harass me to make violent and/or sexually abusive/rapey art with my OCs than yeah I wouldnt like that. I guess they are there to express my idealistic notions of homosexuality. I dont like the abuse stuff with cubs in tears, being harmed raped etc. But I understand others draw stuff like that and thats their perogative as long as no one is actually harmed (thats the important thing for me on this issue, the public moral panic be damned). If I was asked to draw characters I intend as exclusively homo-sexual/homo-romantic to act OOC to be with a member of the opposite sex, or be raped straight, yeah I wouldnt like that. Course I cant stop people from having such fantasies with my OCs.
Anyway, i guess that would be the equivalent for me that would make me uncomfortable.
And ps I know youve mentioned it multiple times but to me "cuddling" doesnt quite cross the line yet, you can still justify it as "straight". A kiss on the lips, as depicted here for example, i think is a step beyond what youd be comfortable with your characters. Hell you said the only yeah Gene and Tasli would hold hands was if they were arm wrestling :p

Like, the two happen to be under mistletoe, are caught by (say) Pinky, who insists they're violating tradition by not kissing (something bad will happen if they don't) as a set up.

If you are a fan of homoromantic stuff without it having to involve sexuality, then you will very much like One Stormy Night (please see the movie, not the tv show where they turned mei the sheep into a pink wooled girl. Completely ruins what makes the movie special imho). The original manga by the way, makes the question of mei's sex as well as the nature of Gabu and Mei's relationship completely ambiguous. It is entirely up to the audience to decide if it's two boys or a boy and a girl, and whether or not the relationship is "romantic" or not. For the movie they decided to make Mei a boy, an interpretation I liked. As for the relationship ... watch the movie and see what conclusion you come to.

Well, that was a ride. I loved it ! And it made me cry at the end XD For me that is a REAL friendship but i would say but i wouldn't say it is a loving relationship. I would expect love to be...better ? At least different. There would have been more show of affection than there was, at least from my point of view. More little details than saving your friend life i mean. That those little bit of extra attention that make friendship turn to love i would say ^^
The matter of a hunter and a prey befriending each other is a nice topic too. If you like it, i would recommend Beastars. It's an anime, it is more violent but there is so much things to look for...^^
