Without getting into too much detail, I never understood that, cause it somehow doesn't happen to me. That said, I often get heavy heartburn (always have to drink baking soda); I get sick from little fat/oil, and I get extremely overheated if I eat just a bit too much. And I can't gain fat. I have an odd system.

You've likely only had properly cooked beans in the past. Beans contain a sugar called oligosaccharide that our bodies can't break down, causing it to ferment in your digestive tract. Oligosaccharide can be easily either extracted from the beans by soaking overnight, or broken down by heat by ensuring that you bring your beans to a full boil before they're slow cooked.

The American West owes a lot to beans as a reliable food source during the pioneer days for these reasons. Ever hear cowboys boast about being rootin' and tootin'? It meant they were real fucking and farting men.
Beans are fruit, so they don't contain lactose, but they do have long-chain sugar molecules humans cannot break down. So some of our resident intestinal bacteria do, and hence comes the wind.
