I learned a long time ago that, since it's not my job, writing is something that is best done when I have something to say, or an idea is bothering me. Even if my energy is low, at least something will end up on the page. And even if it's an incomplete fragment, it tends to work its way into something I post eventually once I later see its emotional core.
I don't know if art works quite the same way, but maybe that helps?
