I've been itching to get Ciara drawn in something approaching suitable adventuring gear for the longest time, so when -tifa- opened up for some AD&D themed commission, I couldn't resist. She designed the outfit, but it actually comes pretty darn close to the sort of thing I've always imagined Ciara would wear while out in the field. At least, on those rare occasions when she's planned ahead. She does have a bit of a tendency to charge headlong into the fray, much to her wife's dismay. To say nothing of her Royal Guard! But even she would have to agree that a queen should look the part, and she does cut a rather dashing figure here, I think.
For those who might expect to see a crown on the queen's head, she doesn't wear one in the field. Rather, the star pin, representing the original five clans that were forged into a kingdom by her ancestor, will suffice instead. It symbolizes her power, with the ruby in the center representing an unbroken monarchy that has lasted a thousand years, without being so obvious as to make her an immediate target.
I guess it could be seen that way. Though, as queen, Ciara is on the opposite side of the law from pirates and their ilk, more or less by definition. And she's never actually set foot on a sailing ship of any kind.

I just thought the garb seemed very inspired by that. Though unrelated it makes me want to IRL start printing chainmail and make a vest and hood for RenFair. I do very much enjoy the leather bracers and shoulder piece with the cape.

Oh sure, I can see why you'd think that, and I didn't mean to sneer at the idea. I just thought it was funny that she should give off such a vibe when she is, quite literally, the one who makes the rules. She does quite like excitement and adventure and really wild things, though, so given a different path in life, she might be out there buckling her swash with the best of them.
And man, lucky you. I've never been to a RenFair in my life. I don't even know where the nearest one might be. I hope you have fun making the outfit and that you get to go again soon!

Yeah unfortunately this year is a no. Despite it being open there are a lot of restrictions and limited capacity. Hopefully next year. It also tends to get a bit expensive bc we go as a group of friends, get drunk on mead, play lots of games, but lots of food and get trinkets. Plus the shows are always a blast. There is a big one not far from me in Ohio, that is where I usually go.

And how! She doesn't get out as much as she used to, and she has all these bodyguards and similar sorts looking over her shoulder, which kind of takes the fun out of it. But she'd leap at the chance!

I definitely need to get some of that done, yeah. I've actually had a few ideas along those lines kicking around in my head for a while now, though it would take an artist who isn't shy of drawing a bit of blood. She comes home pretty cut up sometimes.

lemme know if you find a good one... Alex comes home with worse than cuts himself. He's also got a fortunate gift from his late adoptive father, that helps with heavy and surely fatal injuries.
Although after the first time he came home and made the stronger skunkling cry, he's tried to be a little more mindful of not getting hit on the heavier scale.

Heh, sounds like he and Grace should team up. She can bounce back from some pretty hefty things, too. Aw, and it's sweet of him to be so considerate and try not to get too banged up for the sake of not upsetting the skunklings.
And I'll definitely let ya know!

They could... Grace would have the better luck with it, though. Alex's fortunate gift can do a lot, but he's still very much mortal. Which is why Cassandra grilled him so badly on it.
And after that, and a series of lectures and teaching Alex the basics of tending to one's own injuries, he comes home bloodied but in much better shape.

As she would say, all the more reason to take her along. She's not much of a front line fighter, but she's not shy about doing what she has to in order to protect her friends, either. I've no doubt she'd back me up on this, too.
Heh, I think Niamh needs to powow with Cassandra and find out how to make people actually take her advice. She's been giving Ciara post-battle lectures for years, and the stubborn vixen still charges headlong into trouble.
As she would say, all the more reason to take her along. She's not much of a front line fighter, but
Cassandra would most likely say that is was the fact that she started crying and calling Alexander a "Stupid, reckless idiot" and other names while bawling her eyes out that made Alex listen. That wasn't too long after they started all living together, and he realized that his recklessness could cost him more than his own life. It could destroy the Skunklings' lives by not being there.
Alex is quite headstrong, and reckless. But his best quality comes not from his strength or skill, but from his heart.

Aw, poor Cassandra. I'm glad he listened to her and tries to do his best to look after them. They really are a remarkable trio, and the world, any world, is all the better for having them alive and present and entirely intact!
