On the 130th birthday of my favorite horror author, H. P. Lovecraft, I give you my latest rendering of the most famous of his many creations, Cthulhu.
And yeah, Cthulhu qualifies as a furry, he is an anthropomorphic dragon-octopus.
I have been working in this little statue for some days. I used the bottom of a corned beef can as the base and made the body out of Epoxy clay (my newest favorite art medium) When I painted I tried to give it an aged look and I'm quite happy with the result.
I made this one as a parody of the Budai, a figure typically associated and generally confused with Buddha.
The cult of Cthulhu is spread by corrupting other religions. In the original story, Cthulhu's worshipers practiced a degenerated version of Voodoo. I had the idea of making versions of Cthulhu as interpreted by other religions and cultures, so this would be a Buddhathulhu, probably created by deranged Tibetan monks or something.
I took some pictures during the creation process. The finished one is posed among my other religious statues. The dust is totally intentional, it gives them character.
