Little bit of a cheat here---there was no way I could draw this with the Black Magic pencil ...at least, not completely.
Before I go into that, the subject her'e is Salem from 'Sabrina: the Animated Series' (StAS). StAS was based on the Sabrina the Teenage Witch: a live action sitcom from the 90's that itself was based on a character from Archie Comics ...neither of which do I know anything about. ^^;
As for the animated series, I've known of it for years, but have watched only one episode ...and didn't care much for it. :P
Most everything about the series is amateurish, from its stilted writing to its budget animation (which looks on par with that seen in some PC games at the time, such as Reader Rabbit) ...*adds Reader Rabbit to draw list*
Anyway...
My plan was delineate Salem via a 9H pencil, the go over the lines with the Black Magic pencil. Alas, there's a considerable difference in core (lead) thickness between the two. While it may not have been impossible, I admit to being intimidated by the concept---the lines of the Black Magic are (effectively) permanent, and I don't like Salem enough to draw him more than once. ^^
So, I err'd on the side of caution here and kept the Black Magic out of the ACO portion of this upload, save for its bordering.
Even so, I did use a fairly uncommon pencil to go over the 9H undersketch: a #2 'Great Western' pencil ...which may or may not be a diffusion of 'The Blackfeet Indian Writing Company'. I'll feature this pencil properly in a later upload, as I really like it 9but I digress)!
The headshot on the right was delineated via the Black Magic pencil, after I drew the ACO. It's effectively a speed drawing made via the 9H pencil (for shape and guidelines---I erased nothing except an errant tooth on the left side of the subject's mouth) for the Black Magic to go over. ^^
The Black Magic is smooth as ice, but makes a very spotty line (as many pencils of its type make).
You have to be very careful sharpening this thing---the lead is soft and brittle---keep it short! D:
I made the mistake of 'just' sharpening it, and broke the lead. Not good, as the Black Magic is a rare pencil that's missed by many (who make art different from mine lol)---not good to waste it (I took nearly an inch off mine ...luckily, I have two others, that will never be used)!
Anyway ...Salem! =^..^=
