The Bully and The Nerd
It was lunch class at Greystone Elementary as Vern Dixon was sitting in the school library, eating a peanut butter sandwich packed from home. Vern wasn't keen on the school food, placing the last bite of the sandwich into his mouth, crumpling up the brown paper bag, and pitching it into the wastebasket.
Vern stood up, brushing the crumbs off his shirt as he walked around the library, looking at what the array of books as the librarian looked at him.
"You know the rules Vern, wash your paws before handling the books," the librarian said as he nodded, leaving the library as he walked down the hallway to the restrooms, passing by the lockers. Vern walked into the boys' restroom, approaching the sink, turning the water on as he pumped a glob onto his paws scrubbing the sud covered mess and rinsing them.
Vern shook his paws, drying them off as he felt a paw on his shoulder. Vern looked up to see a black bear his age, the boy behind him was Brett who was a bully around the school who liked pushing pressure on the loner kids in school and Vern fit that profile to a T as he smiled, giving a poor attempt at being friendly.
"Hey there Glasses, glad I ran into you," Brett said as Vern rolled his eyes, not being one to invoke conflict as he tried to ignore the bear, as he walked to the paper towel rack, pulling the lever.
"What do you want Brett?" Vern asked drying his paws as Brett went on about how he misplaced his lunch money and decided to find his good friend who would spot him the money out of the kindness of his heart as Vern rolled his eyes.
"As much as I would like to help you, I don't have any money on me... I packed my lunch" Vern replied as Brett took a deep breath asking Vern to give him his lunch as Vern looked at him, stating he already ate his lunch.
"So unless you want me to hurl up my sandwich and eat that, I Can't help you," Vern said as Brett grabbed him by the collar, asking Vern if he was being a smartass or if he was just stupid as Vern looked at him, saying he was by no means stupid as Brett lifting the Hyena boy by his shirt, clenching a fist.
"So, you're just being a smart ass," Brett said as Vern looked at his fist, asking if there was a chance he could get away with the not hitting someone with glasses excuse, as Brett just looked at him, asking what stunt he was trying to pull.
"I'm not trying anything, I just wouldn't hit me if I was in your place" Vern explained as Brett laughed, saying that his pacifist nature doesn't apply to him and no one talks to him like that. Vern tilted his head completely calm as Brett raised his fist. Usually, by now the average kid would be pissing their pants as Vern just stood their calm.
"My nature has nothing to do with the reason you won't hit me. It's because Leslie Jackson and I are in a relationship, and If I told her you hit me, she'd make you miserable" Vern stated as Brett looked at him asking why Leslie would ever go for a loser like him.
"It's called 'Claiming' which In Hyena culture means she pick me as her mate, and making trouble for a Hyena's mate is just like go after them directly, So you'd basically be punching her in a sense," Vern said as Brett looked around setting him on the floor, running out of the bathroom as Vern smiled, realizing that being 'Claimed' wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
Vern left the bathroom as he headed back to the Library, selecting a book as he sat down in the reading room, the book he had was a paperback manga as he opened reading the book as he saw Leslie entering the reading room.
"Figured I'd find you in here," Leslie said poking her head as she entered, wearing denim overalls and an AC/DC T-shirt as she smiled, asking if she could sit down as Vern glanced at the beanbag chair next to him.
"Of Course, you don't need my permi--uggh" Vern muttered as Leslie landed right on Vern's lap, sitting on her as she asked what he was heading, he told her it was a manga, which was like a comic book as Leslie perked up as he held it out so they could read it together.
It did not seem likely that Vern would actually enjoy Leslie's company, considering she made him miserable since they were in diapers but after her confession, Vern agreed to give her a chance and the two really clicked together. Vern was probably the only person who saw Leslie's true self, who liked snuggling while they read and playing video games.
Leslie sat on Vern's lap, smiling as he turned the page. The two spent the remainder of lunch together as she looked at him, saying that she wanted to show him something special after school, asking if they could sneak off as Vern did not have any plans as he asked what Leslie wanted to show him.
"It's a secret," she said as the lunch bell rang, signaling Leslie to get off Vern's lap as he put the book away. The two Hyena kids headed to class together, there were rumors around school that Leslie and Vern were a couple but no one could prove anything, and the last person who asked Leslie if she was dating Vern got a punch to the face.
After school the two left the school, walking into the woods just outside of town as Leslie slipped her paw onto Vern's back as she walked through the trees as she pointed to a makeshift treehouse.
"There it is, my little home away from home," Leslie said climbing up the ladder nailed to the house as they climbed up, as Vern looked at the place, admitting it was very 'Leslie' in decoration, empty soda cans, a mattress and wireless CD player, posters from a few action movies and metal bands.
"And you built this, all by yourself?" Vern asked, a bit impressed as Leslie shook her head, saying she found it and fixed it up. It was either abandoned when she found it or the kids who built it just left after Leslie got settled in.
"I just like to come here and be myself, and not have to worry what anyone thinks of me" Leslie responded as she laid down on the mattress, shifting through a box of CDs, asking Vern if she could put on some music as he nodded.
"You know most Hyena girls don't usually ask their mate about small things like this" Vern said Leslie explained that ner Claiming him was only in name, she wanted a real relationship and want it to be romantic for both of them as she held up a CD, flicking on the power switch as Chunky Rock guitar was heard at a loud volume as Vern turned it down, holding his ears.
Leslie patted the mattress as she hinted she wanted Vern to lay beside her as he did so, she pointed out the amazing view of the town from her treehouse as Vern admitted it was as beautiful as the two looked at each other, sharing another kiss.
The two hyenas deeply enjoyed each other as they hugged each other, Leslie raising her leg and rubbing it against Vern's outer thigh, smiling as Vern looked at her.
"Leslie, I'll be honest in saying that I disliked you for the longest time, but I'm glad I took this chance, and I'm sorry about your home situation, your father, your reputation. I always just thought you a bully for the sake of being mean. I never thought about how bad you really have it" Vern said as she smiled.
"When I'm alone with you, I feel...happy. It's weird but for the first time in my life I feel like all that weight and pressure on me is gone, I only wished I invited you in sooner, maybe if I had. I would not have turned out the way I did" Leslie admitted as Vern looked at her, saying she did not have to be a bully.
"Just be yourself Leslie, and don't worry about what everyone else thinks, we're the only people whose opinions matter to each other" Vern said, explaining they were both social outcasts on the opposite ends of the spectrum. a raging bully girl with a mean right hook and a quiet loner boy in glasses as Leslie looked at Vern taking a breath as she pinned him to the mattress, her dominating nature taking over.
"Vern, I want you. you know...inside me" Leslie admitted saying she wanted to go all the way with Vern, looking at him with lust-filled eyes.
